My MIL, 58, has a myriad of health problems already--emphysema (not on oxygen yet but has to do 3 nebulizer treatments daily), rheumatoid arthritis and other breathing issues. Today she was trying to flip her own mattress
(there's a priority) and she fell off the box spring and broke a vertebrae(sp?). Two others are cracked or compressed. She is in the hospital for one night of observation.
We are ALWAYS telling her not to overextend or overdo it, because she gets tired very easily and has no immunity whatsoever. She never listens. She never asks for help. DH could have flipped her mattress is about 10 seconds.
The kicker is my BIL, her youngest, is coming home from the war next Wednesday. He is already in KY, coming home to Chillicothe Wednesday, then Toledo on Saturday. His wife, kids, my in-laws and DH were going to Chillicothe to greet his unit. (my own kids have state tests next week so we can't go). She is still bound and determined to ride 4 hours in a car with a broken vertebrae! We are just hoping her doctor tells her to stay home. The back is such a delicate area anyhow she needs to do exactly what she is told for a change.
