MIL diabetic-which rest. to avoid

My MIL is a diabetic, are there any dining places we should avoid? I know to let disney dining know on our ressies & speaking with the chef. But are there any places that just doesn't have much that she'll be able to eat. Thanks
 
Most places can modify dishes to suit her dietary needs (leaving off sauces, etc).

I suppose there are some places that rely more on higher carb items like the rice/noodles that come with Chinese/Japanese food or couscous in Morocco. Of course one could eat less of it and more meat/vegetables. I guess the consideration then is the sauces or sugar added to it.

I would look at the menus here or at allears and talk to your MIL about it. Maybe have her look them over with you and see if there are good choices for her at the places that you are considering.:thumbsup2

MIL is an adult and knows how to eat off of a restaurant menu with her diabetes. Most diabetics are well aware of their dietary restrictions and don't need "food police" within their own party. WDW is very good at helping guest with dietary restrictions. Dad is a diabetic and if a dish sounded to 'carby' (i.e. sugary) he would just ask to substitute a vegetable he read about on the menu for the bad carb accompanied by an otherwise tasty sounding dish. Tell MIL that things can be mixed and matched to suit her needs and hence no restaurant should be off limits.

For figure friendly reasons I limit my carb/fat/sugar intake and frequently asked for substitutions on the menu and each was gladly accomodated with a smile. As long as the restaurant serves it somewhere on the menu, you shouldn't have a problem.
 

I rarely have to police mom but sometimes she does carb out. She had to have 2 packs of pringles and learned right then and there that it is 1 pack per meal unless she had absolutely no other carbs. She knows what her limits are and will stop when she is full.

Disney deals with people with a wide variety of dietary needs. Atkins diet was a low/no carb diet and celiacs cannot have bread, for example. Every sit down restaurant can make special meals for diabetics. Diabetic meal planning goes back over half a century so chefs are well prepared to deal with diabetic guests.

You say diabetic but each diabetic is a unique person. My mother controls her diabetes by staying active as is possible and diet. Some diabetics are on a very strict diet. She is a grown woman and will do fine with Disney restaurants. It is very kind of you to make sure she is happy on the trip and avoid any problems. Definitely look up the menus which are linked in FAQs. While a diabetic many not know the portions of items on the menus I would say use what you would eat at home to guestimate how many carbs you would get from the meal. If they bring you a huge plate of fries then you eat a quarter or what ever you eat at home. Mom gets a slab of cake and takes 3 to 6 bites and that is it. On a club sandwich she ate half then picked out the meat and goodies, thus leaving the bread.
