Migraine or Death?

I hear ya! There was a stint I felt the nurses always knew who I was (I was having an asthmatic issue for a few months) I just *knew* they talked about me at social gatherings...

"How about that whack job who always thinks something's wrong with her??"
"Oh Cathryn - oh yeah, we know her!!! - Looney!!!"

Haha...that's me!!!!

CathrynRose, Your from Chicago have you ever heard of or seen any of the doctors at the Diamond Headache Institute? My husband suffers from non-stop headaches and we were thinking of trying them out to see if they could help him. I really sympathize with anyone who suffers from any type of headaches. I think sufferers are made to feel like they are "crazy" if they complain about the pain. (Which my Dh very rarely does because he doesn't want people to think he is looking for sympathy). Good luck and I hope you feel better. Terri

My "migraine" turned out to be a stroke. took me about a week to recover.

How long did it take for them to figure out it was a stroke and how?

I know how you feel. Sometimes doesn't it just feel like you could hammer a hole in your skull and it wouldn't hurt any worse?

I was out of school on tuesday with them.

I'm an odd cat. My migraines are not AWFULY painful but I go "blind" for about 30 minutes! I get a "starburst" that starts around the periphery of my vision (these are known as auras) and gradually covers my whole vision. It was horrifying the first time I experienced it (at 18 years old).....I thought I was dying!

I take a benadryl to bring the "aura" under control and a vicodin for the pain.

I've never had that happen, but thanks for the warning, I'd think I was dying too!

i've tried imitrex and zomig...nothing really 'takes it away in a half hour' like they claim...it's still a 4-6 hour ordeal with me.
until the rebound headache...ugh.

My FIL thought he had a stroke about 6 months ago...ended up in the hospital...turns out it was just a really really bad migraine. He's had them bad before...but he was losing sensation on one side of his body. (he's pretty young..50 or 51).

take care...hope yours eases up some!
That happened to me when I was 10. The left side of my body went numb, starting with my face and eventually moving down my entire body. I spent a week in the hospital doing test after test and my final diagnosis was a severe migraine. It was terrifying.

I had migraines almost every day until I was in my early 20's and they've almost completely gone away. I only have 1-2 a year. I also used to get Occular Migraines (saw spots and flashy things - sometimes followed by a migraine). I have no idea why they went away. I had sinus surgery about the same time so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.

I tried Elavil, Prosac (a disaster), biofeedback, Imitrex, and various other meds I can't remember now. I feel for anyone struggling with migraines.

Awww Sparx, so sorry you were sick. I will lay there and pull my hair really hard to try to transfer the pain somewhere else.

Both of my DDs suffer from them. My youngest started having severe daily ones just after she turned 6. We went thru CT scans and MRIs before the diagnosis was made. She is on a daily medicine that is actually an older antihistamine "cyproheptadine" to prevent them. We also modified her diet and eliminated chocolate, aged cheeses, nitrates (hot dogs, lunch meat), MSG (soup, ramen, chinese/japanese food, cheetos, doritos) and anything else that seemed to trigger a headache in her.

My older daughter gets them from stress and hormonal triggers.
