Migraine headaches and coke?

Many of you have mentioned before that when you feel a migraine coming on, you take a pain tablet (ie. Aleve) and have a coke. I was wondering what does coke do? Is it just the caffeine or something else? I had a headache yesterday and tried your advice and it actually worked. However, with the number of headaches I get, I sure don't want to have a coke each time or I'll never wear a bathing suit again! Is there some special ingredient in coke, or could I have a caffenated tea instead?

Yes, it's the caffine. YOu should be able to have tea or a diet coke or diet mt. dew. Excedrin migrane works great and it has caffine in it already.

I take excedrin with water. At times I do drink dt caffien free coke and excedrin works fine.

If the headache is a migraine stay away from anything with aspartame in it (most diet drinks have this to replace the sugar). Aspartame has been known to bring on migraines, but the caffine will help the headache.

Yes, it's the caffeine when mixed with the aspirin. But please be careful. If you use this on any kind of regular basis you can really 'blow out' your stomach and cause greater problems. Once in a blue moon probably won't hurt you, but if you are getting migraines more than twice a year, you should probably see a doctor. There are prescription meds out there that are more reliable, more accurate in dosage and do less damage to your stomach. Good luck - those headaches are no fun to deal with.
