Might want to think twice before reclining that seat!

I hate it when people recline their seats! I mean we only take 2 hour flights and they are always during the day, so reclining really isn't necessary! The space each person has is small enough without the person in front of you laying on your lap! However, I would never hit the person, I would be more likely to accidentally bump into their seat until they got the hint!:lmao:

Yikes, I wonder what the cost of the wasted fuel was, and if those that caused the disturbance will get stuck with that bill.

No one was charged so I am guessing that the airline ate most of the costs of the flight cancellation, fuel, etc

Too often the FA tells the passenger, "deal with it" and the result can be as described. Whereas if the flight crew enthusiastically jumped in and did the dealing (which may involve compensation that is microscopic compared with the costs of the incident described), problems would not escalate.

You are in the wrong for trying to give a hint here. When you say "Excuse me I wish to get out" the person in front as well as the person next to you is responsible for making room for you to get out.

My two cents that I'm sure will cause some responses but here it goes... I'm paying for the seat and all of the stupid fees that the airlines charge. If the seat reclines and I want to use that option, I will.

That being said, I will first look back and make sure they aren't using their tray and I will recline slowly. I'm willing to bet just about anything that's how the fight started. The jerk in front never looked behind to see if the tray was down and I'm sure he/she just hit the button and reclined at full speed. I've seen it a million times.

I don't think tapping on the seat until the get the hint helps. You need to communicate in a nice way and if they still won't move their seat up, it's too bad but they have that right. I think it would be rude not to move it up a little but if that's what they want to do, it's their seat.

I see now that my post might lead to something, but my intent was just to point out how ridiculous people can get! It could have been anything - I wasn't opening the floor to a debate on seat reclining (but it looks like I did - sorry!).

I was once on an international flight from NYC to Amsterdam. This is about a 7 or so hour flight. At some time during the flight I decided to recline my seat. As soon as I did the person behind me popped my seat up. I wasn't sure if it was on purpose as it was so unexpected so I reclined again. And again my seat popped up. This time the flight attendant was near by and saw the incident and spoke to the person behind me. He stated that he bought an extra seat so this wouldn't happen. The problem was the extra seat was next to him not infront of him.:confused3 After the flight attendant spoke to him I didn't have anymore problems for the trip

You can't expect people NOT to recline their seats on an overnight international flight.

If anyone is to blame, it's the airline for putting the seats so close together to jam more passengers on the plane. I understand that the airline is trying to make a profit, but this kind of thing is inevitable.

Blame the consumer demanding lower and lower prices, the airline is just accomodating the best way it can by utilizing as much incabin space as possible to still justify flying at all.

If consumers want more room, they are welcome to purchase business/first class tickets.

I have back problems which aren't visible to anyone. There are times when I NEED to recline and the option to recline is there so I'll use it when I need to.

The seats don't recline that much.

If consumers want more room, they are welcome to purchase business/first class tickets.

Some seats recline quite a bit, even in business and first class. However, as long as the airlines provide reclining seats, people have a right to recline.

I recline my seat as soon as take off is completed. We have precious little space and I hate sitting bolt upright. I fully expect the passenger in front of me to do the same so he/she will also be more comfortable. If everyone does the same, everyone has EXACTLY the same amount of space as if nobody reclines anything. I am annoyed by those who think passengers should not recline a reclining seat. Huh?

It is outrageous that the aggressor was not arrested. Charges should be filed against him and he should be billed for the expenses. Just who does he think he is?

You would accidentally bump into their seat? Wouldn't that just escalate the problem?

Seat recliners don't bother me... it's the people who grab the top of the seatback in front of them when they try to stand up. Once standing, they let go of the seatback and it practically launches the passenger in that seat into the seatback in front of him or her. Honestly, people. Start working out so you can go from sitting to standing without assistance OR USE YOUR OWN ARMREST!

Thank you. ;)

Ditto!

I agree! Also if you want to keep a lap baby on your lap, fine, but don't let the kid entertain himself by constantly yanking on the seat of the person in front of you or let him enterain himself by yanking that person's hair. I was once on a flight where a kid about 2 y/o spent the entire flight standing on his mom's lap, yanking back and forth on the top of my seat (basically just bouncing it) until he discovered my hair. Then he spent about 20 minutes leaning against the back of my seat yanking on my hair and squealing.:rotfl: I pulled it away from him a few times, then finally looked over the seat at the mom, at which time she just smiled but did nothing to stop him. Finally when he just kept on and yanked it really hard, I turned and asked her to please keep her child from pulling my hair. I couldn't believe her response. All she said was, "Sorry, but it keeps him entertained. If we make him stop he'll just cry and disturb everyone else on the plane". I was speechless for just a second, then looked at the kid, pointed, and firmly said, "Stop. Leave my hair alone." She was right. He started crying, but did leave my hair alone for the rest of the flight.:rotfl: She couldn't believe that I reprimanded her little snow flake, when she wouldn't.:rotfl: Crying babies on a flight are pretty much the norm and don't really bother me, unless they are right behind me screaming in my ear, but I don't want them pulling on me.
