Might I be able to upgrade?

I am not a DVC member but rented DVC points to stay at BWV next month. This was a dedicated reservation for rent so it was basically "take it or leave it", I wasn't able to modify the dates/room type to my preference. We are currently in a studio however I would love to upgrade to a 1 bedroom. I suspect with the low amount of visitors that inventory should be available. Does anybody know if I'd be permitted to ask/modify the reservation at check in?

Thank you in advance for any insight!

The DVC member who owns the reservation could end up being charged the difference in points. It has happened before. As a DVC owner, I would be beyond upset if someone asked to upgrade and then I got charged the points. I have plans for my points and if I rented (I won't though), it would screw up my plans and trips with my points. Plus, I would need to figure out a way to now charge you for the extra points. I would hope the contract for the points that you rented says that is against the rules.

I never even thought of the points as I assumed I would pay in cash but I now see what you're saying. Thank you for the info!

If your going soon, there's a small possibility you could maybe be pixie dusted with a surprise upgrade (look for an active thread titled something like "Pixie Dust at SSR!" but no, as stated above, you can't request an upgrade, even for cash.

I'm certainly not expecting that but wouldn't it be terrific? Fingers crossed! 😊

As stated, any change initiated by you would result in the owner getting charged,

DVC doesn’t usually do upgrades. Now, I have read of a few being given them lately, but wonder if it has to do with low occupancy and them allowing them to leave a room empty between guests for extra cleaning.

This is my hypothesis on these reports as well. With lower occupancy, it could make everyone's life a bit easier to do a few upgrades and have more time for the expanded cleaning.

have you asked the broker to make contact with the owner to see if such an upgrade were available and, if so, at what cost?

It's a fire sale reservation. I'm not sure the owner would even have the points to upgrade it. It would be about double the points and they might want more money for the extra points (not just $9 a point). It's one of those "cancelled" reservations and the original renter agreed to take a lot less than they paid to take it off their hands.

ah. Forgot about that....

The reservation system has no means to mix points and cash. It is a major limitation of the system. If a CM "upgrades" a points reservation, it pulls points.
