Might have to do POP instead of POR

I am so bummed! We have a ressie at POR for Aug 28-Sept 3. Well DH says we may have to do a value (probably POP) instead to save money because the house we are buying is more than we expected. I really had my heart set on POR. I guess the only way to still do it would be if we got an unexpected code or discount, but I'm not holding my breath.

Someone please tell me that they loved POP and what the benefits are as far as transportation, etc. Going on the trip is me, DH, DS2 and DS4. We are going for DS4's 5th birthday that week.

:worried:

Don't fret. POP is wonderful!! The theming is delightful. Your kids will love it. Also, the bus transportation is fantastic. POP has its own bus line. The longest wait we had was 10 minutes and that was on New Years Eve! I'd stay there again.

Thanks for the positive reply!

We'll save almost $400 by switching. I was kind of figuring that could go to food/souvienrs.

What do you think about the pools- are they crowded since it's a value resort? Is there a pool for each section (50's, 60's, etc.)?

Don't give up hope yet. You are going during a slower period...discount codes could be offered. My in-laws went during the time you are going and got a rate of $49 a night for a value and $69 a night for a mod. Can you believe they stayed at the AllStars? I would have been all over a mod. :) The found the offer in the newspaper.

Since we went in late December, the pools weren't crowded. There are three pools. A bowling-pin themed pool near the 50s building, the Hippy-Dippy pool near the 60s building, and a computer themed pool near the 80s & 90s buildings. Between the 60s and 70s building is a splash playground.
Maybe someone who's been in warmer weather can chime in with a pool opinion.

We stayed at Pop last September and loved it. My kids were upset that we had changed resorts this year. The feel of Pop is wonderful and very upbeat. Plus you can't beat the bus service since they don't share while All Stars all share. I would request a room in the 50's or 60's. We stayed in the 80's and it was okay but I really liked the 50's alot.

Sleuth,

I'm in the same boat you are in. We are doing the land/sea at the Poly May 5th through the 12th and then coming back for 3 more nights of fun at WDW but unless the codes come out in the next 3 weeks or so, I'll be changing my ressie from POR to POP real quick. I'm spending so much $$ already on this trip so every bit of savings helps. I keep telling myself it's still Disney but dd loves the water slides. Oh well we'll be at the Poly and the cruise so it will be okay.

It's such a bummer. DH and I were really excited about the New Orleans theme of POR. But if it means we will have more money to eat with then I'm sure it will be fine. Who knows, maybe we will really end up liking POP a lot!

The fact that the buses are exclusive to POP really sounds great. I hope the pools aren't too crowded though.

Anyone know how the food is at POP?

I know isn't it :sad2: but I think with kids as young as yours that you will like the POP. My dd is going to be 12 and LOVES the water slide. She is spoiled by it as a matter of fact but I keep trying to tell myself that we are going to stay at the Poly first and then we are swimming with the dolphins in Nassau so she will just have to lump it . I think besides no slide or hot tub she'll be fine. She likes to moan alot but it could be the age LOL. I think we'll both be fine hey we'll be in the best place on earth right???

I didn't know there was a slide at POP! I thought they were only at the mods & deluxes! That would be great if there is a slide there!

I think she was saying that there is a slide at the Poly not at POP.

Oh no sorry for the confusion there isn't a water slide which is why my dd would be a bit upset but she'll have to live with it if no codes come out.

Sleuth,

Regardless of where you stay, your still going to WDW, so not all is lost.

Don't be sad, Sleuth, POP is GREAT! I think your kids will have a BLAST at POP! If you are downgrading but don't mind the extra expense of getting a preferred building, I would do so. We were in the 60s and it is the ideal location. There are big colorful icons for the kids to enjoy. I found the food court selections to be very good. Better than the choices we had at WL.

As the others stated, POP has its own buses, so no other stops except at POP and the park. That was nice after a long park day. ::yes::

we stayed at pop your same dates last year and we loved it! the place is great! the pools are great! your kids will probably love the hippy dippy pool or the goofy squirter things... we stayed in the 50s section and it was great for us, but you might like 60s (preferred $10/night extra) or 70s (near the goofy fountains)... it's a great resort, is all "disney magic," has fabulous transport and the food court was above average (liked it much better than cbr)... we tried almost everything they offered over the course of our week+ and were never disappointed... my fave was the lo mein, it's a must have (we liked it so much we had it for snack one day! LOL!)... the rooms are small, but well appointed and quite comfortable... the outside walkway is nice, esp if you are in a low traffic area (and at that time of year, most areas are low traffic, imo) 'cause you can use it as a "balcony" and drag your chairs out and have a drink or dessert after you put the kids to bed... truly, there is nothing not to like about pop... enjoy!

We are going to Pop this time too!! We have always stayed in the Moderates, and I was set to try POFQ, this trip.

We decided to go with Pop, for finance reasons as well. We had thought, if codes come out, to switch back, but now have deciced to stick with Pop.

We are actually excited about Pop, after looking at the various web-sites, and all the different pictures. I never thought I'd be staying at a value resort, due-to all the neg. comments about All-stars, but we figure this is a new resort, and we'll try it.
I can't stand the thought of off-site. As long as I'm at Disney, who cares.

Most people say how great Pop is. If it isn't as expected, we won;t go back, but if it like people say, we may have found a new favorite.

Wow everyone thanks for being so positive! I was really bummed out at first, but I do think POP will be fun.

If we don't do the preferred building, does anyone have any suggestions for a building that's not too far (we don't mind walking some, but not too much) from the bus stop? And a room that is quiet- like which floor is best?

Thanks!

I would request the 70s building - bldg 17.

After staying deluxe for numerous trips, many club level and/or concierge, we stayed at Pop and loved it! This past January we stayed at CBR and honestly wished we had booked at Pop instead! Yes, the rooms are small, yes you have one sink, yes it is a value, but everything was just so "Disney" it was a great trade off for a quickie extra vacation! Have a wonderful time, and don't sweat it... You're going to Disney!
