Thank you all for your messages, they have helped us a lot!
Basically, my husband works for this really horrible guy who runs the whole depot. He is foul-mouthed, bullying and threatens everyone all the time. Most of the people DH works with are engineers who are on contract so they don't have the same employment rights that a permanent employee has. Luckily DH was made permanent a few months ago.
The head of the UK bit of the corporation (its a big company) came to see DH 2 weeks ago and they spoke for about 2 hours about what was needed to improve things etc. DH said nothing about his boss. Didn't matter, his boss completely lost it when he found out that DH had spoken to the head guy. Fortunately, head guy liked DH and told DH's boss to promote him and give him an assistant.
Fast forward two weeks. DH gets into work yesterday and has his boss screaming the most horrible obscenities at him (he does this all the time) and told him to leave, that he was finished at the company etc. DH was just stunned and said 'right, you want me to go' and then I guess his boss realised that he couldn't really do what he had just done so he said 'get back to your office, I don't want to see you'. And then he went off and yelled some more obscenities at a few of the engineers.
Well I guess DH just had enough so he rang the head of HR who was stunned at what DH had told him and they told him to go home and take the week off. The HR guy rang later, really really agitated (he had obviously just spoken to DH's boss) and Phil apologised because he felt a bit bad for dropping this on his lap on a Monday morning and the HR guy said 'you have absolutely nothing to apologise for'. So i'm guessing DH's boss had a go at the head of HR too.
Right now we're not sure what will happen. A part of DH would love to see his boss transferred and punished because he has bullied everyone at that depot for years, he's fired contractor's for no good reason, people with families, mortgages etc. He is a terrible person who doesn't care at all about his employees. DH hasn't had a lunch break in 2 years. He just works straight from 8am to 4pm and shoves food into his mouth in between people coming in and asking him for stuff and the phone ringing and meetings.
The other part of DH would like them to just pay him out so he can look for something a bit 'saner'. He's on 3 months notice so that might not be something they are willing to do.
Anyway, on Friday the HR guy is coming round to see DH and have a chat and hopefully then we will have a better idea of what will happen. We do know a bit about his rights and i'm sure this HR guy does as well. If they do nothing DH will have to resign and sue for constructive dismissal. This company is international, its a corporation really, they won't ignore this. But DH has said he will under no circumstances go back and work for that guy so we will have to wait and see what his options are.
In relation to our DLRP trip, I rang Thompson up and they said I could push it back to April or May and just pay a £35 change fee so that is reasonable I guess. I had been looking forward to few people and riding things more than once but you can't have it all!
Thanks again for listening, its been great to come on here and chat with everyone and get your support, we really do appreciate it!
