Through phoning various realtors I found a December UY 130 point SSR for $9745, closing costs included.

Ideally I would like to travel in the spring (March to May), so from what I read on here, December falls good for a UY for spring bookings.

To me, this seems like a great deal. I did the math, and it would be a great opportuniy to stay at a fantastic resort every year. I guess I'm just worried about spending that amount of money and committing the family for that many years. (Then again, I could always resell.)

The interest rate on my equity loan is miniscule, so I'm not worried about that. Any suggestions as to make me feel a bit better about my purchase?

I know just how you feel. I am almost ready to purchase as well, although not tomorrow like you are! It is scary and exciting all at the same time.

Here are things I think about in regard to how I MIGHT feel years later owning DVC.

- You don't always have to do the disney parks. There are other places to visit in Orlando, or you can just take a week and enjoy the resort!

- You can stay at other DVC resorts and not just your home resort, and can stay in different types of rooms.

- You could bank and borrow from last and next years points and do a big gathering (once in 3 years) if you get tired of going every year (although I personally can't yet imagine this scenario just yet!). This is also an option if you are tight on money and want to skip some trips.

- There are so many different types of stays you can have after kids are grown, you can go with spouse, or friend, siblings, or adult kids and grandkids, or even all by yourself!

And...as you said, if you absolutely had to or wanted to, you could sell it.

Good luck with your purchase!! Let us know how it works out for you!

I've seen your posts with the various questions. It seems to me that you have made a well thought out and prudent decision. :thumbsup2
Best wishes!

You are getting a *heck* of a deal on your purchase, and you should feel wonderful about the fact that you will no longer have to factor accommodations into your Disney stays. SSR is a gorgeous resort and you will be so happy with your purchase. Congratulations and welcome home!! :goodvibes

Congratulations and I think that you have done a great job of asking the right questions in your effort to learn about DVC.

Just based on what you have posted about your children and how happy they were at WDW, I think this is a wise choice for you.

The contract sounds like a great deal and seems to be at a price level that will pass ROFR!!!

I am a fairly new member who has been visiting WDW for many years and the excitement of being an owner is wonderful!!! Once you sign and committ, you will be just as excited as the rest of us!!!

Good luck!!!

So since I wouldn't be getting any points until December 2009, do I have to wait until Dec 1st to book my May 1st trip?

Don't do it!!! Beware you will be committed to having fun for the next 50 years! As you know too much of a good thing can be bad for you!!!!

No you can book your trip starting 11 months advance of check in date. Your Uy and when you get your points will not affect when you can make the reservations.

So, for a May 1st trip, you can call June 1st (if booking at your home resort). It will probably take you 4 - 6 weeks to complete your resale. Once that closes, it takes about a week to 10 days to be in Disney's system. As soon as you are a member in the system, you will be able to call.

Have fun!
