Miffed at the Disney Store

I called and the adult costumes were 50 percent off. The cm there told me that they might not discount the childrens costumes and keep them year roun. DARN.....

:(

I asked the question on this board a few days ago about the costumes being discounted & one of the members responded that the Princess costumes would not be going on sale at all... apparently they will be keeping them for "dress up" play year round... I called our local Disney Store this morning & they said that the adult costumes were only 50% off, so definitely not worth the time to go in for us...

You beat me to it! I also went to TDS this morning and you should have heard everyone asking about the costumes. I think we were all surprised that they weren't on sale.

UGH!

Being a DS CM I have to ask the question...why are you miffed at the Disney Store because they have decided to sell dress up all year and didn't put the costumes on sale? Were you ever told to come back the day after Halloween and get your costume on sale? We have all known for a while that the dress up would stay - in fact we have been begging for it for years!

I am miffed because last year they were 50% off so I figured they would be this year. But like everything else with Disney lately, things change all the time. If the stores knew for a while maybe it would have been nice to put up a sign!

Letsbgoofy,
Glad you asked the question. :) I was wondering why also.
Everything changes all the time, not just Disney. Without change the world would definitely be dull. :)

We're not the only ones - there was a ton of people in there first thing this morning looking for the costumes on sale. It's not that it's an "expectation", but we're just REPEAT visitors shopping based on past shopping experience at TDS.

At our Disneystore there are tons of "dress-ups" left. I can't imagine them leaving all that inventory taking up space forever. I will keep checking back hoping they go down in price. If not, I will wait till next year and see if there are any new and improved costumes for halloween.

Why would a parent buy a single costume for $29.99 when on-line you can get a princess dress-up trunk with 4 for $50. Thanks B3LM-you wrote exactly how I felt. Of course the DS can do what it wants with their merchandise. I was just very disappointed and had a 3 1/2 daughter crying and asking why I wasn't buying her the Minnie Mouse one.

I'm not much of a shopper, but I can honestly say that I don't think that stores put up "these will not be on sale the day after..." signs! I can understand disappointment at not getting a great deal, but not anger. Things change in retail all the time. Disney made the decision to carry dress up all year, therefore no mark downs. I know that I told many guests that thought they would wait until a couple of days before Halloween to purchase their costume on sale that they wouldn't be marked down.

As for having so much inventory in the stores, this is just a guess but maybe some of the left over costumes will be sent to the Disney Play Stores as that is the type of merchandise they will be carrying all year.

I certainly don't think that is the Disney Store's fault, now is it??? Why should you expect to receive a particular holiday item on sale the day after the holiday?

Speaking for myself, I could have bought my kids "knock-off" Disney character outfits elsewhere for less for Halloween but I chose to purchase theirs at the Disney Store, DD-7 a Belle costume and DS-4 a Captain Hook costume in addition to the accessory kit of the sword, patch and parrot for extra 15.00 bucks and also sold seperately the Hook and ALSO sold seperately the Pirate Hat. Yes it was more than I usually spend or care to spend for a Halloween outfit but with two trips to Disney during the past 12 months and one more planned I figured What The Heck, you only go around for a whirl on this Earth for a short time, might as well enjoy the ride. The joy my kids received just that one night wearing them to a Fall Festival Church party where my son attends preschool on Halloween Evening was worth every single penny!

JMHO and I too like a bargain as well as the next person but I certainly don't expect it.

What is a Disney play store? Never heard of that or maybe I have been in one and didnt' know it.
As for being on sale give them time. I think in the past they didn't always go on sale right after Halloween and then did the 25% off, 35% 50% etc. Could be wrong but it I think they tried that several years ago. Remember how Halmark was? use to always be 50% off then several years ago they only marked them down 35% now it is 40% off most stores. then they always get stuck with stuff and in the spring at a side walk sale you see a ton of ornaments for $1! So I would just wait it out as more inventory comes in they may have to clean out a little our stores aren't huge!

A Disney Play Store is a store that only carries toys and dress up. They are still in the testing stage now, but from what I have heard from CMs that work in these stores they are doing well. I have read about several stores that will being closing soon to reopen as Disney Play Stores, so I think that you will see and hear much more about them soon.

I bought my DD a jasmine outfit at epcot and paid 55 for it! but she is worth it. to see her face light up the way it did !!!

they are turning one of our disney stores into a play store now i know what it is

I really like the sign in the front of the Disney store near me that is advertising a FREE t-shirt with any purchase of $25 or more. There are no little stars next to the phrase and no little explanation on the bottom of the sign. So, when I went there with my daughter's fund raising money to purchase $50 worth of Disney dollars for use in Disney World in May, I was told that I do not get the shirt. It is only for merchandise. Isn't that a kick in the seat. The way I look at it is that I gave them money, they rung it up as a sale, so why am I not receiving a shirt for my daughter? Am I just incorrect in thinking we should have gotten one?

Most stories don't count gift certificate purchases (which is basically what DD are) for promotional purchases. When you buy DD and use them at the parks basically you're not making a DS purhcase but a park purchase. That said there should have been some type of disclaimer (if not on the sign inside the store) but they seem to be saying you're not really making a purchase but pre-paying for a future purchase that might be made in a different corporate entity.

You only TRADED United States Currency for Disney Currency. They still have to give you something in exchange for the DD that you just received. So you didn't BUY anything, therefore no "free" shirt.

EMMADOO, I know how you feel. I just went to TDS on Thursday. I picked up and paid for my Annual Pass ($350+) and bought some halloween merchandise. As the CM was ringing it up, the manager standing next to him said, "Did she buy $25 in merchandise?" Fortunately, I had bought over $25 in merchandise, but I did think that he was a jerk for asking considering I had just spent almost $400!
