Midwest to ground all MD80's by the fall [MERGED]

Today my plane reservations are back to normal - they say plane type m81 again instead of "N/A" like they did last night
Rats, I was kind of hoping that the change last night was a sign that they were about to make some schedule decisions.
Right now, I'd just like to know what's going on so we can make alternate plans if we need to....

;) You and the rst of us;) .

I am just hoping that they use some common sense and not alienate all of planning our trips.

Well, we have a flight for Feb '09 and was notified yesterday that we were changed to 3pm instead of our 6:30pm flight. I'm just hoping that we have ANY flight by the time Feb rolls around.

Well my flights are still there but now the price has gone frone 236PP to 700PP:confused: .

My October flights are now $851 per person! :scared1:

This is what happened the other day right before my March flights were canceled. They were much higher priced, too. Then gone.

Yesterday this flight was $280. This is the cheapest one today for my flights.

If I switched to the 2:50 flight out, it would jump to over $800. There was one listed even for over $1,600.

I'm either getting one heck of a deal or will soon be walking to MCO. I think if we get cancelled we will do SW out of Midway.

My gut feeling is that the flights from MKE to MCO will not be dropped. It is one of the liesure routes that is in the range of the 717. These flights are always booked solid.

I fully expect to see every airline in chapter 11 in 6 months. In Chapter 11 they will reorganize and continue to fly and the routes to MCO are very popular. However if ridership drops because of prices and the general economic situation, all bets are off.

I also expect to see bookings at WDW to start slowing down.

We have two trips booked in November and March on flight 890 out of MKE. Like everyone else I am concerned but I am not in a panic.

I sure hope you are right!!! I check my flights daily to make sure they are still there.

I just got an email today about a schedule change to my reservation for December. I called because it not appear to have any changes to it. I sat on hold for 25 minutes for the girl to tell me that the change was made back in May on our return flight to land in Milwaukee at 9:05 PM instead of 8:45 PM. I told her that I have known that for over a month already! She said to call back often to make sure nothing else changes as we are still booked on the MD81 aircraft.

"Booked solid" unfortunately doesn't mean profitable. Everything Midwest has been saying refers to continued service to their "business" locations. Orlando isn't a business location, it is definitely a leisure market.

I think she's giving you a BIG hint there- the scheduling must not be done yet but when it is, the MD-80's are gone.

I don't think that will happen. The European dollar is 2/1 to our dollar. Sure, people in the U.S. may not book, but that isn't going to stop the foreign traveler.

If bookings do slow down, the Marketing dept. will come up with something fast. Remember after 9/11, stay 4 days, get 3 free. They will send out codes, and pin#'s to fill their resorts too. I received a pin code last January for 40% off a resort room. It gave me a lot of options to choose from. I'm sure we will start seeing more of the codes come out in a few weeks.

Actually today the Euro is worth $1.60 Not quite 2 to 1. The British Pound however is worth $2.

And I will say it again (and again...) Most Europeans with the exception of a few fans do not have an interest in WDW - those from the UK, yes, but not the rest of Europe.

If they do go to America, it is often to other destinations, or WDW as once in a lifetime. Manhattan has been more busy than usual with Europeans since Christmas, but don't expect the same influx at WDW.

And remember, the average Europeans have less disposable income and are feeling more of a food price crisis than Americans right now.

So should we be calling instead of checking online? :confused3

Pilot Union: Midwest Moves Closer To Bankruptcy
Union Says Management Unwilling To Agree

POSTED: 8:38 pm CDT July 11, 2008
UPDATED: 8:48 pm CDT July 11, 2008

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Midwest's pilot's union said on Friday that the airline is moving closer to bankruptcy.

The union said it's basing the claim on the negotiation process over potential job and pay cuts.

The union said Midwest's management doesn't seem to want to reach an agreement outside the bankruptcy process.

Midwest representative Mike Brophy responded to the Pilot's Union's statements by saying, "If we need to (claim bankruptcy), we will. And if we do, we'll let people know at the appropriate time."
I wonder what the consider appropriate.

Yikes! We are booked on MW890 in November out of Milwaukee. We will really be in a pickle if they cancel these. Does anybody know how soon they would let us know if changes will be occuring?

In June when this started, it said within 30 days, so we all should know by the end of JUly.
