Midwest to ground all MD80's by the fall [MERGED]

I don't get it! I still am waiting to hear something on my December flight, but they are already canceling March 2009 flights. I just checked and my December flight on the MD80 is still there.

I know, I wish I knew either way. What are your dates in December, ours are for Xmas week and if I need to make other arrangements, I wish they would hurry up and let me know!!!

Okay, maybe this is old news, but I just read my Best Care Weekly and they are highlighting their 717's with new 2x3 configuration for fall. Yeah, maybe my Xmas vacation will take place after all!!!

When we called about our Jan flights into Central WI, we were given no choice about the changes. We were also told that we would not get a refund.

I see that some of you are getting refunds. Our tickets were non-refundable. What type of tickets did you have?

Mine were nonrefundable, too. When I told them that none of the remaining flights that they could offer me instead of the cancelled flights would work for my schedule, I was offered the refund. Yesterday for my March trip as well as several weeks ago when those same flights were canceled for the Oct and Dec trips.

That is very old news (at least a year ago) and the rumor is that the change was put on hold, although others are saying it is still in progress. It was supposed to have been done by early Fall but there has been no news about it from Midwest.

Check the Midwest schedule. Have other flights on 717's been ADDED to the schedule on the days you are flying? If so, the theory is that those are the flights that will remain when they push the button to eliminate all the MD-80 flights.

Well, there is news now, because it came directly from Midwest on their website.

I want to know about this too, as I am hoping for a refund!

If you purchased your tickets as an e -ticket, they are non-refundable, but you can pay $100 to use that ticket within 1 year of purchase. I purchased our tickets on-line-which are non-refundable. I cannot call and cancel my tickets without a fee.

True, and I understand that, if I cancel the flight. I am not doing that, but I hope THEY cancel it. I want to know why some people who had their flights change had to take a flight vs a refund, and others were able to get the refund. Like the quote below, their's were nonrefundable, but they got a refund offer. I just want to know, so I can try and get a refund for when they change (I hope) my flight. And if they don't change it, then I'll deal with it.

I just know that all my flights were canceled for Oct, Dec, and March. I had the same flights for each trip, the last flight out of MKE and the first morning flight in to MKE. They were all purchased online, all were e-tickets. All were nonrefundable.

For Oct and Dec, I accepted new flights on Midwest but I WAS offered a refund if I wanted it. When Midwest canceled my March flights, this time I took the refund and booked Air Tran instead.

Now I'm hoping the December flights are canceled again because I booked Air Tran as a backup. I have my family double booked just to make sure we actually GET to Orlando in December. I expect I'd get another refund if December changes again.

I just checked my flights through my online account on midwestairlines.com
My flights are there, but under aircraft, it lists "N/A" where it used to list M81 (even this morning)

they are starting to make some changes....
no message to call cust service yet, though & seats are still assigned....

Wow, I just checked flights for the week between Christmas and New Years and the prices have dropped - only $236.oo a person, down from 5-700.oo a person yesterday. What do you think that means? The flights are starting to fill up more now too. But is still says MD80............

I only caught a glimpse of this on tv last nite.

Union workers came from all over to support Midwest express, even airline stewards from other countries.

The Milwaukee County Labor Council will stage a candlelight vigil tonight to support union pilots and flight attendants at Midwest Airlines. The vigil will begin at 9:30 p.m. near the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee, 333 W. Kilbourn Ave., and go to the Midwest Airlines Center, at W. Wisconsin Ave. and N. 4th St.

Now mine says MD 81 anyone know what thats about??

MD81 is still in the Fleet of MD80's.

I know all airlines are having problems with jet fuel and trying to cut costs, but the more I am reading about Midwest, it really seems like they are trying to severe ties with the Union.

Today it's M80. Playing arond on the website I can still buy travel insurance thru MDW. Anyone know if it would work if they declare bankruptcy???

The Travel Guard Insurance sold by Midwest Airlines does not cover airline bankruptcy (already checked with them). Also checked with VacationGuard and their insurance does not cover it either.

I heard on the news today that the pilot's & flight attendant's won't even consider the pay cuts that Midwest is asking them to take.
The union is not happy, which I don't blame them! We have to keep a close eye on this.
