Here we go again! While the east coast is still digging out, we here in the midwest are being told there may be another major storm here this week (we had 14 inches a week and a half ago with blizzard conditions-3 snow days for kids already). AGH! We have plans to drive to WDW, leaving Nebraska Saturday morning at 4am, spending the night in northern Georgia, finishing the drive on Sunday. Depending on how the storm goes, we could have trouble getting out of town, driving through Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, etc.

Anyone else watching the forecasts and sweating it out??:rotfl:

Will AAA help me plan an alternate route at the last minute? Should I call them? I'm sure they're regular offices won't be open on Christmas...hmm.

Hi Pixie..fellow nebraskan! Yay! :wave2:

I hear ya about the storm. While I'm not going to Disney, I'm going to Chicago, flying next tuesday! I think it will be okay by the time I go though.

I hope the snow stays away, but it sounds like it could be more of an ice maker :sad2:

Call AAA and see what they say. It won't hurt. I hope you make it to Disney. That's a long drive w/o snow!!

Hi, Megan - go Huskers!

I called AAA, they can't really help with weather conditions, but I did order a fresh Trip Tik, so that's good, I can pick it up tomorrow.

Does anyone have a good weather or road condition app for my husband's Blackberry?

Have you mapped out other routes as a back up? Or try leaving earlier?

Are you from eastern Nebraska? It's a 24 hour drive from where I'm at, so I've been told.

Well, there just aren't that many good alternatives. Wouldn't you say that in snowy weather, it's probably best to stay on interstates rather than US highways? That would be our inclination. If we must, we might have to wait a day or even half a day. We have a free hotel room reserved in northern Georgia, which is 15 hours away from us. Holiday Inn had a special this year and December 26 is the LAST day to reserve that free night and they don't seem to eager to let us change locations. I just hate to give up that free night, but if we have to we have to, right? You can't fight the icy snow covered roads.

Maybe the whole thing will miss us. :lmao:

I'm confused, you say you're leaving from Nebraska but driving through IL and IA??? If you're leaving from Nebraska I wouldn't even worry. If you're leaving from Iowa or IL I'd really watch the weather. I'm in SE Minnesota and we're about to get just hammered over Xmas...I'd either consider leaving early or wait it out. I think it's supposed to be over by later Saturday or Sunday...

If I were you I would leave the night before. the cost of an extra night at hotel is a lot better then spending your vacation stuck in a snow storm.
Be sure to plan for an emergency ie getting stranded in your car on a highway.. pack water / food and blankets. This past weekend people had been stuck in their cars for several hours as the highways turned into parking lots.

Yeah, the storm is slamming us Christmas Eve into Christmas Day. Just watched the news, we should get about a foot of snow. Then we're supposed to get high winds on Christmas, so we're just hoping for clear roads on Saturday. And we do go through Iowa, Missouri and Illinois!! We go through a lot of states!:rotfl:

We'll be smart about it, but we are excited to get there.
