Midway question

We're flying out of Midway this fall and I've never flown out of there before and have a couple of questions.
I see there are a number of private parking lots advertised on the net, has anyone used these and is the shuttle reliable?
We'll be driving into the airport around 4-5:00 p.m. What is traffic like? Thanks for the help.

there is a company on time affordabe limo 40 bucks each way to midway,

In his recommendation for Midway Park Savers, my husband forgot to mention that it is within walking distance of the airport. Other lots, including the 'official' Midway lots, require you to take a shuttle, which can be a real zoo. But choose your spot wisely, as some are rather small/tight if you have a larger vehicle.

Personally I would go with Barb's advice. I figure she spends more time at Midway then most pilots!

Thanks for the help. Is traffic really bad around Midway around 5:00 p.m? I'm leaving from Iowa so I don't think a limo will work for me :) Normally takes me 4 1/2 hours to get to downtown, I'm curious how much traffic I'll run into around Midway.

Are you coming in on a week day or the weekend? Believe me, it makes difference in street traffic. Rush hour around here starts between 3:30 and 4:00, so plan accordingly. Also, make sure you have good directions (I'm "directionally challenged", so I'm not the one to give them to you  ) because the airport is not directly off the interstate. You will have to travel on some surface streets. Have a great trip. (If you have time, Harry Carey's makes awesome home made potato chips :mickeybar )

It will be a Friday evening. Our flight will leave at 8, so I'm thinking about coming into that area around 5. Will that give us enough time to park and get through security and get to the gate? I've been through ohare a number of times but never Midway.

Midway is a much nicer airport to O'Hare. I far perfer it.

However, traffic can be very bad, especially on a Friday evening, getting there. I remember once driving from downtown to the Midway airport area this past June, it took 1.5 hours (left downtown at 3.30PM, into the Midway area just before 5).

If possible, get there around 3pm. Rush hour is starting and you won't get into a panic if you get into a traffic jam. Also it might be slow getting thru security. Friday is a heavy travel day. All the business people are heading home for the weekend.

If you have never been there this should help.

You will be coming in on I-55 and getting off at the Cicero north/south exit. It is one ramp for both directions. That would be a right turn at the light at bottom of the ramp onto Cicero. Central ave is the exit before Cicero on I-55.

Cicero is a north/south street. In that area north/south streets have names along with NE/SW streets (Archer ave which you will cross).

East/west streets are numbered (ie 42nd st, 55th st etc.)

You will be exiting onto Cicero at around 42nd st.

The airport is one mile square. The north end is at 55th st, the south end at 63rd st., Cicero the east end and Central the west.

The terminal is on Cicero just south of the curve. The major east/west streets you will be crossing will be 47th st, Archer ave (ne/sw street) and 55th street (northeast corner of airport). they all have stop lights. After you pass Archer ave you will go under a railroad overpass before 55th st.

This site might help.
