Prior to our Disney cruise last weekend, I foolishly gave in to hubby's pleas to park in one of Midway's lots (there are NO independent lots anywhere near that place). I really didn't want to do it, as my boss had warned me that they are always filled. Sure enough, when we got there...ALL full. Even the overflow lot was full! We went to the overflow-overflow, which seemed like it was halfway back to our house  At least was was only a flat fee of $15 for however long you needed to stay.
That lot was almost full, and the line to board the bus was out of control! We were lucky enough to make it on, but lots of people didn't. Thank goodness we had left with plenty of time. Many of the people apparently hadn't, as they were panicking. It wouldn't be so bad if we had known to go to the overflow-overflow lot in the first place, but we found out when we tried to park in the regular economy lots.
Returning home on Easter Sunday was a breeze. There were zillions of people waiting for the buses to the regular economy lots, but we were the only ones waiting to go to our lot. Our next trip is coming up in three weeks, and I'm torn...this time, if we drive, I would just watch carefully and immediately head into the overflow if it's open. But I'm scared that it could be full too...then I don't know what would happen. I'll post an update when we return from that one.

Wow! Thanks for the information. We are flying out of Midway in June. Now I know to leave even earlier for the airport.

The good thing was that Security was a breeze. The line was longer to check your tickets (to make sure you were a passenger) than it was to go through the metal detectors. O'Hare has been really good, but we had no idea what to expect at Midway. That was a pleasant surprise! That was a Weds. afternoon...not sure if that makes a difference.

I looked at the Midway internet sight and did not see anything about overflow overflow parking. Is this parking run by the airport or is a private business? Also, can you remember where it is located? Are there signs clearly posted?

I'm asking because 1) I'm a small town girl who has been to Chicago once in her life (we live 2 hours away). 2) Our plane leaves at 7 am so we need to get there at 5 am. It won't be fun driving around looking for parking that early in the morning.

It is run by the airport...there are NO privately run lots anywhere around that darned airport!! When we were on our way, it was NOT clearly marked at all, but when we returned, they had one of those flashing construction signs marking the overflow-overflow lot. Both are located on Cicero Ave. (righthand side of the street if you are heading there from the direction of Ford City, i.e. going north). I think one was around 69th and the other was at 72nd, over the bridge. Hope this helps!!

I've used the outlot parking at Midway several times and so far have had no problem finding a parking space. However if you were traveling on or near a Holiday weekend, I wouldn't be surprised if the lots were full.

I usually park in the lot on 55th Street. The entrance is the first light west of Cicero on 55th. I agree though the line of people for the bus is sometimes out of control. What we usually do is I leave my friends to "guard" the luggage and I hop the bus then drive back into the terminal area to pick them and the luggage up. Beats all of us dragging our luggage onto the bus.

There is also a parking lot on 127th Street in Crestwood and I believe they charge a set price. You leave your car in their lot and they bus you to the airport.

Ohmickey, email me if you would like exact directions to Midway.

We to are flying out of Midway in June. Now I am worried that we won't be there in time. We to are about 2hrs away and our flight is at 7:00am we are getting up really early and driving but if we could have specific directions that would be great. If you could PM me that would be great. Would it just be easier for my hubby to drop us off and then go park the car? Thanks.

Wendy, your scenerio sounds like ours. I would appreciate directions also. Figment2, it would be a great help if you could e-mail me the directions.

Has anyone ever stayed overnight at a hotel that offers off-site parking. They are expensive ($130/night plus $6/day parking). We're considering this because of the long drive and parking issues.

We looked into a hotel that offered a fly dry package. They are expencive. For the hotels closest to Midway they were anywhere from 120-145 plus 45 for parking your car there. That is why we just decided to drive down instead we didn't think it would be so bad for parking because of our early flight.
