Are parents allowed to chaperone at after school dances in your child's school?

Yep, if we didn't chaperone there would be no dances. We are required to have so many teachers present and we like to have at least one of the male teachers.

Normally the principal and vice-principal (or at least one of them) will be on campus but working in their office. We can call them if we need them.

There are 5 parent and 5 staff chaperones per dance at our middle school. My kids would just as soon die than have me chaperone their dance. They fear my dance moves. :cool1:

If a parent is more than 15 minutes late picking up your child from a dance, your child is not allowed to attend the next dance unless the parent is a chaperone.

I think PTA parents are here?? My 3rd is now in middle school and i don't even want to ask that question for fear I will be asked!!

Thanks for all the replies. I was asking because my son is attending his first middle school dance on Friday, and I wanted his father to chaperone since he tends to get lost in a crowd (PDD-NOS). The school said no. I've sent a note to his teachers to see if anyone that typically works with him will be attending. Hopefully so! I'm really trying to get him out there and more "involved" in social things :)

I'm just amazed that there are still schools that have middle-school dances. IME they have been pretty much gone since the late 1970's -- too much fear of potential liability.

Not sure where you're from, but I've lived in Maryland, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey and have friends from them all, and they all still have middle school dances.

Not at after school dances. For evening dances, they do. In order to attend the evening dances, the kids have to join the "Teen Club". Parents are asked to chaperone at least one dance.

The parents have to chaperone or there is no dance. They have cancelled a couple for lack of volunteers.

There are usually 4 teachers and at least one priest at our dances (Catholic school), but parents are required to chaperone. If there are not enough volunteers, the dance is cancelled. Since they like to have a dad on the door, DH ends up doing it every time.

Catholic school here too...7th and 8th grade dances are in the evenings and they rotate btw 5 schools. When we are the host the 7th grade parents must chaperone. When the dance is at another school, we must send two chaperones as well, to work the door at first and then chaperone inside. Our dances would not happen w/o parents.

not aroud here- the kids have a 5th grade dance which is just sort of hanging out type things- no one dances LOL...
6th grade and 7th grade dances are right after school ends for the day and only teachers are at those.
8th grade dance is much more of a "dance" than the rest-- the girls get totally dressed up in nice dresses, have their hair done nails done etc and many come with corsages on from their dates. It is a big date night out for the 8th graders- some kids do just come in groups of boys or groups of girls but lots come with dates. The teachers have their work cut out for them on those nights keeping these kids from getting to close!

I chaperone the junior high dances. This will be my 3rd year, as DS is in high school. The school dances are fundraisers, and my son is part of the fundraising group. Parents are a necessary part of the dances, as we are the ones that take money and supervise. The kids just help to setup and clean afterwards.

We dont have middle school dances ours are grades 7 -12, we are a Pre-K thru Grade 12 all in the same building with 600 kids, we dont have enough kids to hold seperate middle school ones, we do let parents chaparone, i do it all the time, Ive been to the prom (which is only grade 9-12) as a parent chaparone the last 3 yrs and will be again this year, here what ever class is hosting the dance is responsable for gettign 6 parent chaparone, I get asked by the kids all the time, and i dont even have a kid in grade 7-12.:lmao:
