Middle Initial Doesn't Match Airline Ticket

We are leaving for Orlando in 3 days. My mom went to the DMV today to get a new drivers license, because the plastic was curling up.

Her Southwest ticket was made using the name on her DL at the time (which was her maiden name initial "G"). Now her DL has her middle name spelled out "Anna"

She still has her old DL, with a hole punched in it. Do you think this mis-match will be a problem and if so, with who? Southwest, the security check-point or both?

My passport has my whole name spelled out. My state issued DL has my last name, first name, middle initial. My last three flights on DL, SWA, and JB in July and August required my full name be entered, but none of three had my whole name on the boarding pass. TSA checkpoints at LAS, LGB, BOS, MCO, and RDU didn't say anything going through security. Your mileage may vary, but that was my experience.

Who knows? She said she just asked for a replacement. I am like, we are only three days from the trip...and you did what??!! :)

Ah, Moms..... you gotta love the little dears.

Nothing like making life more complicated!

The initial "G" is her MAIDEN name initial...not to be confused with her MIDDLE name initial, which of course is confusing. ;)

I had a similar conversation with continental airlines on Tuesday regarding names on my ticket versus on my dl. She says as long as your first and last name match it doesn't cause problems. I have put my full middle name on a SWA ticket last December only to have portions if at all of my middle name show on my BP. TSA had no trouble with it, I even asked and they said that the airlines printing process can only handle so many characters in the name location.

Thanks - we'll call Southwest.

I got one better for you. A few years ago I took my mother and my two sons on a cruise.

The morning we were leaving, I go to her house to pick her up. She tells me she isn't going because she can't find her birth certificate :scared1: (Why she waited until the morning of to look for her birth certificate is beyond me).

Anyway, we both continued to look to no avail. Finally I told her she was going. We took her Marriage License and her Baptism record along with a letter she had from her Mother's minister to verify that he was a witness at her birth. (She had these items because she needed them to get the birth certificate she got and then promptly lost :headache:)

Luckily she was allowed to board the cruise ship and we had the time of our lives!!!

I hope you and your mom have a great time on your trip!

Wow APB513! You had me laughing out loud with that story!! :)

I can laugh about it now but I guarantee I was not laughing then.

Maybe it was her way of paying me back for all of the h*ll I put her through :lmao:

I went through the same thing recently. Booked a flight for a friend and had to pay $40 to have the letter 'e' added to the end of her first name :(

Honestly, your friend would have had no problems getting on the airplane........

My Mom has been married 2X. She only sort of changed her name when she got remarried in her 50s. Now she is separated and wants to use her maiden name again! She has credit cards and bank accounts in both her married last names and now she wants to add a third! A few years ago we went on a family cruise and her airfare was booked with last name #3 (which was on her license), her birth certificate has name #1 and she wanted to use a credit card with name #2 for her cruise check in.

Moms! gotta love em.

I also think it might have been the way you they things back in the day...... my grandmother's initials were CHD........ yet her middle name was Mildred........ the H was the initial of her maiden name..... Hall. Go figure.....
