Microwave won't heat

So it runs and seems fine but all of a sudden it does not heat! I have no experience with this. Should I take it in to be repaired or buy a new one. Talk about a budgt buster! It is 4 or 5 years old, but dang

Same thing happened to us. Our next door neighbor is an appliance repair man and said that they are not made to last longer than that. 5 years is a typical life span for a microwave.

This happened to us too around Christmas (around the 5 year mark). My MIL bought us a new one as a present.

By any chance was it a GE Spacesaver microwave? We had to replace the magnetron for $165 on our 5 year old microwave.

Our 3 year old microwave just did this to us in March. I wasn't happy. I figured it was cheaper to just buy a new one than take it in since I was able to buy one for about $250.

Just an FYI - when the delivery guy brought our new one he said the last one probably died because we left the shelf in it. The new one had that written all over the instruction book, but I don't recall seeing it in the old one. Needless to say, we only put the shelf in when needed, which so far as been never!

Ours just died one week after the one year warranty expired. Grr.... It was an LG. Never again!

My microwave died after two years but I bought it with no warrenty, so I am stuck fixing it. Luckily my FIL knows people who work on stuff like that and he's gonna fix it for us. He said the magnatron in it was bad. This was a brand new maytag too. Scratch and dent with no warrenty...SUCKS!!!

Now that being said, the microwave I bought for my first apartment alone, 10 years ago, is still going strong!!!! UGH!!! cheap o microwave too. Got it at walmart for like $75!! Paid like $300 for the maytag!!!

Oh I was at LOWES and if you are intersted, they had an over the stove samsung 1000 watt for like $179. They may still have it. It was a nice one!!!

If it's over the stove then they are more expensive. But most counter top microwaves are really cheap now. I bought one for our travel trailer and it was medium size/wattage and cost about $50. So not a huge budget buster.

There is a circuit breaker in a micro wave that goes bad too. Especially if they have been moved recently. It is one of those dime parts that you can install with a screw driver. So, check that out first! Us two old ladies did it with out either Dh helping!

Ours died 2 weeks ago. GE spacesaver over the stove and would not heat. Well we are trying Dave Ramsey Financial Peace and looked on Craigs List.
Brought home the exact same one, a little newer and took 3 minutes to install and cost $45 dollars. I am so happy. We can't believe how great it looks. Barely used!! Wort a look!!!

Mine will heat things up to 5min after that it shuts down.This thing is only 2yrs old GE..They sure don't make them like they use to!!

Mine died a couple of months ago as did my dishwasher. I just got the dishwasher replaced this week and ordered a new micro today. I bought an extended warranty on the dishwasher but figured for the $250 the micro cost me, I can replace it every couple of years if it dies. My last one was a GE and it lasted for 7 years. This one is the consumer reports best rated Samsung. Hopefully it will last as long.
