Staying at CSR and have requested a microwave in room via tour operator (Virgin). Is this likely to be granted? Travelling with 6 month old (and 2yr old) so will need it for sterilising bottles etc. any advice along with 'not likely' answers would be appreciated! Thanks.

I've heard they are pretty scarce, if it were me I'd call the resort and ask how likely they thought it would be. I know at POR there is a microwave for guest use in the food court.

I requested a microwave last summer. I think I told them as they were saying OK that my son has food allergies, which he does.

I used it to make him oatmeal and more importantly, make him Rice Krispie treats for the park.

We got one in November at Yacht Club. I had a 6 mo old and had to sterilize bottles as well.

I have never heard of a micro in room, nor the need to sterilize a bottle after the 1st use..

Think UK guidelines are slightly different in terms of sterilising. It's recommended to sterilise before every use. To be fair, I'm pretty sure my parents never sterilised and I'm still here! Thanks for replies. Going in less than 2 weeks, may drop them an email.

I've never sterilized a bottle either. Just sent them and all the pieces through the dishwasher. Just out of curiosity what is the reason?

We took ds13 to Disney at 6 months. I took dish soap and washed all his bottles in the sink at night and they were ready for the next day.

Just guidelines in UK. To kill bugs that hand hot water won't I guess. They are quite strict. Boiled water that has been left for no longer than 30 mins to make up formula bottles also. Different countries different ideas. Only becomes a problem when you're out of the comfort of your own home! They tend to use scare tactics to convince you to stick to their ideas. I had one health visitor tell me it could cause meningitis if I didn't! As if... He couldn't provide me with any evidence when I requested it though. She's 6 months anyway so pretty much picks up everything she can get hold of and it goes straight in her mouth- none of that is sterilised!

I always sterilized before the first use but never after that and all my kids are here and healthy ;) I imagine you will be fine if you can't get a microwave but it is worth asking for as it'd be nice for other things as well :) I know around 6 months I started introducing a sippy cup to my kids and I have never once sterilized one of those.
