Hi

A couple of weeks ago I installed Microsoft Security essentials and it was fine. Over the weekend I got a trojan message and it completely shut my machine down. I had to re-start in safe mode and go back a couple of days.

I then ran a full scan it it said it detected a trojan, which it deleted for me.

Now, my question is, is this security software safe to use and how can I tell if it's the real thing and I haven't downloaded some dodgy software, although it looked real.

Thanks
Tina

As long as you downloaded it from the official Microsoft website then Microsoft Security Essentials is completely genuine and safe to use and it is regarded as one of the best free anti-trojan programs to use so you will be fine.

Many thanks David, have since found out the Microsoft Security essentials was attacked last weekend, hence the problems.
