I noticed that stores are offering a free upgrade to 2010 Microsoft home office when you purchase the 2007 edition. I am interested in the student edition. We purchased the 2003 edition just before 2007 ed was released.

Does it make sense to buy the 2007 edition w/ the free upgrade or wait till the 2010 edition is released??

I can't find our 2003 disc to install it on our laptap. Also since the kids are using it at school I figured i would get the latest version.

Which makes more sense. I hate to wait and then pay more but on the flip side buy now and it is released at a cheaper price.

any input would be appreciated

I can't help you on the MS stuff but have you ever looked into open office? We've never found the need to have MS office because OO handles it all. I am pretty sure our schools have switched to it also.

Currently Office 2007 Home and Student is running about $30 cheaper than the pre-order price for 2010. So if you are fine with dealing with a digital download the day 2010 comes out (and have the broadband connection to download it) and burning your own DVD backup of the software it will be cheaper to buy 2007 and then upgrade.

Keep in mind these are pre-order prices, which are usually the set official Microsoft price. As soon as it is released the price may come down. Or it may not.

You may also want to check which version your children's school is using. Neither of my children's school have ever had the latest version and ask for homework to be saved in the version that the school runs.
