I wanted to save on paper towels and buy some microfiber cloths to clean with. What is a good brand to buy or are they all created equal? Are the ones on Flylady.net as good as they say they are or are there some better/cheaper ones?

If you use them, what do you use them for? I've seem people say that you can clean windows with just water. What else are they good for other than just normal cleaning?

Thanks!

Cheapest way I know to get them is in the automotive aisle. You can usually get a big bag of them for about $12. I think the last sack I bought had 15 in it.

The ones I have are looped like terrycloth; they are VERY tacky; I use them to pick up sawdust when woodworking.

I've bought some from Dollar Tree and they work great!

Another vote for the automotive aisle - at the warehouse stores they're less than a buck a piece in the big package.

Just make sure to wash them with only detergent and not fabric softener - that will mess with their absorbancy.

I get mine either at the dollar store or in Target's dollar spot. I always buy a few when I see them so I have extras, we use them for everything!

I got a big bag of them at BJs. I think there were 30 in the bag and it cost less than $20. Half of them were blue and half of them were white. It's been at least 3 or 4 years and I use them for everything. I did buy a special silvery color one for the stainless steel fridge.

I've often wondered about the flylady ones too, if they could possibly be THAT much better.

I have the flylady ones along with the water bottle.

Honestly, I really like them but I don't have much to compare it to as I live in a tiny apartment with very little to clean :rotfl2: (and I don't have a washer so I frequently grab paper when I wouldn't if I had a place to do a quick wash)

I LOVE the way they clean my bathroom mirror and my glasses. They do a great job on my old stove when food gets stuck. They work great in my car too.

I don't know if I love them more than I would love anything else but I feel good supporting a company that provides a free service (that I use daily)

PS I really love the water bottle, it's just heavy even when empty

I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't given up completely on paper towels though I wish I would. I only use paper towels in the kitchen. For cleaning the house I use microfiber towels.

I use them to:

Clean the windows, dust the woodwork, dust everything. I use them on the swiffer for the floor, on the dog. Suggestion buy different colors for different jobs. I have 1 color for bathrooms, 1 color for windows, dog has his own set, 1 color for floors. They come in all kinds of colors and can be found on sale all the time. I also use all natural cleaners and can't live without baking soda and vinegar.

Why pay for cleaning rags, especially since your motive is to save money? Don't you have old towels, diapers, or stained tee-shirts that can be torn up?

I've bought cheapy ones and honestly, nothing compares to the Don Aslett microfiber cloths I bought from QVC years ago. I got my first set 7 years ago and they are just now wearing down so much that feel the need to replace them. I don't care for them the way it's recommended (you should not put them in a dryer, let them air dry...but I dry them in the dryer).

You can use just water on them to clean anything, even windows. However, I like my chemicals and usually use them with cleaning solutions.

If those are too pricey (I forget how much they cost) I found decent cloths, although way smaller, at Pep Boys. Check the automotive dept. of any store and you'll find microfiber cloths cheap.

I buy them from the dollar store - they have the microfiber ones with mesh on the back - perfect for scrubbing the stove or counter after cooking. They do work better than regular cloth rags and don't leave lint behind on mirrors or the TV/monitor.

Sometimes I use cleaners with them for big jobs, but more often than not, I just dampen the cloth with water.

I hadn't thought of using them in place of paper towels for drying - good idea. I usually just use a dishtowel or rag for that job.

I have a few from the auto store that I use on the car. They are bigger than the kitchen ones from the Dollar Store.

$ store, I sometimes even see them cheap at my regular grocery store. I have tons and use them for everything. I LOVE those things!

In a pinch I have even lined a cloth diaper with one, lol. :thumbsup2

Only thing to add is that if you do put them in the washer, do not use fabric softener. Made that mistake with pads to clean laminate flooring. Oops! :-)

I have found very few rags from the rag bag clean like microfiber. The rags leave lint like crazy.

We found these bright yellow towels in a pack of 30 at Sams. I can't remember the name but they are Awesome!!
