I have never attended the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and I am not much of a parade person. I am however considering trying it out (more so for rides). Also I read that ride lines are shorter and limited rides are open. What rides were open on past visits? Are the rides running during the parade and fireworks? Any help would be great! Thanks!

Most rides are open all night long, and lines are short.

We do it a bit different.....the ride lines are shorter because there are less people in the park. But, there are also a LOT of great things to do and see and characters to greet that are NOT available outside the party.....and you're paying a premium to be there, so we prefer to do the "only during the party" stuff....and then hit the rides. Dec 2013 my daughters rode Star Tours nonstop....they didn't even have to get off for about the last 45 minutes of the night...and there were hardly any other riders. In fact the last ride of the night, Darth Vader's heavy breathing came on, and then he wished them a Merry Christmas, lol.

seriously, the lines are so short that 5 or 6 hours of rides is going to be too much (hard to imagine), so hit some of the "only tonight" stuff and enjoy.

We will have kids Newly 4 and age 5 this year. They normally go to bed at 8:00, and even at Disney, they are in bed before 9:00. I really want to do the Christmas party, but I'm really worried about pushing them and then paying for it the rest of the trip. SO unsure what to do1

I'm confused. Star Tours is a Hollywood Studios.

We did it a few years ago and it was a great experience. I recall most rides were open (I can't even remember what was actually closed.) and the lines were shorter. There was so much else to do, too.

I'd love to do it again someday.

The only rides that are closed are ones that would be dangerous to run...so Jungle Cruise is closed and Swiss Family Robinson. Everything in FantasyLand is open, Tomorrowland, Liberty Square are open. BTMR and Splash are open. Similar to Halloween Party, the parade is awesome, there are special shows and if you stay late enough-it snows on Main St. Grab some cocoa and a sugar cookie and enjoy!

I too am torn. Mine will be 4 and 7 and while I hate to miss something that is not available other times of the year, the reality is that even if they last long enough to get our money's worth, we will be frustrated with the crowds AND have to deal with cranky kids later. I feel like there is so much else for them to enjoy that first trip that maybe the party can wait for a later trip.

I am planning a late park day for that day. Plan is DHS the night before -- all day until close -- so we HOPE to sleep later (hopefully son will be zonked out -- he does sleep late sometimes thank God!) and then grab a late breakfast in hotel, show him some hotel scenery and head to MK around noon. (We are doing 3 or 4 days there so not to worried about getting stuff done with a late start).

That's the only day I plan on renting a stroller so if he gets tired on the way home, he won't be TOO cranky and asked to be held. We are just going to see how long he lasts, read his moods etc. I just hope (for his sake) he makes it to the Buzz tomorrowland show.

We will be at WDW the weekend the MVMCP's start and are thinking of going to the opening one. I am super excited about the parade and meeting the characters in their Christmas clothes. DH and I are big meet and green fans, so getting to meet some new/different characters makes it worth the money for us.

Just know that the first party will likely sell out.

Sorry, that's what I get for posting so late.....the Darth Vader evening was at DisneyLAND not Disneyworld.

But the concept is still the same....we've done several of the Halloween and Christmas Party at both parks and there are things that are special only for that party.....and you're paying a premium to be there. The rides have such short lines that we do all the special stuff FIRST and then can hit the rides with it taking longer to wind your way through the empty line que than it does to wait to get on the ride. So saving any riding until later in the evening means you can still ride everything you want and not wait.

I was telling my daughter about my goof of messing up the parks and she says "yeah, but if you don't care about characters or parades or special shows then riding the rides without lines all night would be pretty cool". Hmmm...I'm thinking we may have a change of touring plans this next holiday, lol. Strange because this was the kid that whined when I didn't want to wait for her favorite character's line. Ahhh, they grow up so fast.

I hear you. What we normally do... sleep in the morning of. Don't race up, go to a park early etc. Spend the day at the pool or whatever, maybe even take a nap. LOL Then go into the park in the afternoon when the ticket allows (which is 4 I think?) and spend the evening. Bring your stroller, and in case they fall asleep, you've got the stroller. Or don't bring one, but if they can't make it, then you have to leave.

That's what we did when mine were younger and still do, minus the stroller. They're 7 and 5 now and love to stay in MK till 1 and 2 am. :)

Your kiddos rock! I'll have my niece (newly 5) and twin nephews (almost 7) when we go in Oct. I want to do MNSSHH but they are usually in bed by 8. They are always awesome to be around except when they are tired. If they could make it til the fireworks it would be worth it for me. Just not sure they can stay up that late even if we have an easy day. I'm gonna try to snag a late O'hanas bfast ressie and then go back to the resort to swim and nap.

I would say relax that day and tell them you are doing some special that night, if they nap maybe an afternoon nap before heading to the party.
