Mickey's Magical Christmas

I am surprising my sister who has not been to WDW in 16 years and going 12/5 - 12/10. Our first full day (Friday), I was planning on going to MK, leave early afternoon to go rest at POR, then return to one of the MK hotels (??) for an early dinner, then go to Mickey's Magical Christmas. I've never been to Mickey's Magical Christmas so not sure how to tackle this. Any thoughts/suggestions for the day? Also, any recommendations for dinner close to MK?

It's now called Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Your ticket for the party will allow you to enter MK at 4:00, so, you can go to a different Park in the morning if you'd like. There will be lots of character meet and greets, a parade, special fireworks, castle show, and some Counter Service restaurants will be serving cookies and hot chocolate. It will be your chance to meet all 7 Dwarves at once! There's also a lot of special merchandise too!
