I don't see much posted about this. Has anyone been? I've got an ADR for me and my 10 yo daughter for our last night there, but now rethinking it because it seems like it will take some time to get there and back (staying at the Poly).

Any thoughts/advice?

Thanks!

NOTE1: Tables are long picnic tables of about 40 people per table, so you sit with
others. No reserved seating, so the "mad dash" for seats can be interesting. There is
no "front row", just the end of the picnic tables. Folks start lining up about 1-hr prior
to the 5:30pm seating. Also, the characters are there for dancing and front interaction,
and usually do not go thru tables, so sometimes there is a long line trying to get to the
characters. Also noted the sides are open to the weather. They put up plastic diverters
for winter and simple fans for summer, but it does get VERY hot/humid or cold. This is
not a well heated or air conditioned pavilion. "Dancing" characters interact well with
kids in front of the stage, and younger kids love it.
.
NOTE2: Mickey BBQ was always about one-half the price of the Hoop Dee Do Review.
With the popularity of DDP, they jumped the price double, including 2-TS coupons.
WITH NO CHANGE IN MENUS; NO CHANGE IN CHARACTERS; NO CHANGES AT ALL.
Cost was barely justified at lower prices, and not worth the current price. At least just
not for ribs-chicken-burgers.

It's been years since we went, like 2007, but we loved it. My husband quite enjoyed the food, as well as our son who was 7yrs old or so. Strawberry Shortcake is delish! We were on the dining plan back then. It poured the rain during our Backyard BBQ, but we still loved every moment. I'd go again.
If you go, take the monorail to the Contempo, then take a speedboat (for free) over to the camp ground. We were staying at the Contempo when we went.

It's nothing fancy, but you will have fun and you will not come away hungry.

Following - we made an ADR for Mickey's Backyard BBQ because we wanted to do something different and new. Our DD is 4 yo and loves the characters and loves to dance. We have a lot of other character meals/interactions planned, so I'm just wondering if the show is something that th kids can get up and dance to, or is there really no room and you're just eating and watching the show?

We have been to luaus in Hawaii where most often the seating is like long rows of tables with the ends facing the stage, and a mad dash for seats, so I'm ok with that - just wondering if it's a good experience for the kids.

(other candidates were Hoop Dee Doo and the luau; the CM I spoke to on the phone recommended the BBQ over both of those - she said the HDD might be a little more (too) mature for DD and the jokes might go over her head)

People seem to love the BBQ or hate it. I think it really depends on your family, and the luck of the draw in terms of the crowd level when you attend. For my family, we hated it. It starts off with a so-so meal of burgers, chicken and ribs. Nothing great, but not terrible. I didn't like sitting at a large table with strangers. I know some people would enjoy this, but it's just not for me. It also didn't help that the group across from us got into a huge fight half way through the meal. It really distracted from our enjoyment. The show is OK. I didn't like the dancing part. It was very crowded and kids were pushing and shoving trying to get near the characters. It's something my family will never do again.

Yes, love it or hate it. Very few in between!

My family is not a fan, but we brought a shy 4 YO, so dancing with the characters was not going to happen.

I think that if you want to go, make darn sure you allow plenty of time to get there. Not necessarily in travel time, but this is a first come first seated event, and you choose your space. If you have any kind of preference, you need to arrive early.
