Anyone been to it? Good, bad, indifferent?

We are not too much concerned with the quality of the food - none of us are gourmets! Mostly the entertainment value. We will have our 3 kids, ages 10, 6, and 3.

We did Mickey's Backyard BBQ about 2 years ago with our two kids..boy 8, girl 6 and they loved it. We did too. They still talk about it! It is a fun show and it is very interactive. Great chance to mingle with the characters. Here's a tip...when you first get in grab a seat first. Most people line up to eat and then look for a seat. Grab a seat and then take turns grabbing the grub.

This is by far my kids favorite meal at Disney World! We just went again last April my kids are 9, 7 and 3 and when we asked them where they most wanted to eat when we go in August, they all replied Mickey's BBQ!! The food is typical picnic food, I like it though my DH does not. But, they now have added hamburgers so that makes him happy. Even he says it is the best character interaction. Where else can you dance all night with the characters!! And my 3 year old did actually stay on the dance floor the entire time!!lol

we're considering MBYBBQ for our next trip too but i have some concerns... is it true that it's not air-conditioned? would it be uncomfortable in aug/sept? also, how 'bout bugs? (since i believe it is open-aired) i'd hate to be shooing flies from my watermelon, kwim?

We did this once and it was terrific! We loved the character interaction, dancing with everyone was a real treat. We aren't country music fans but we had a great time. Food was pretty good. Usual bbq fare. I liked that you could get beer & wine too, nothing fancy, but a nice touch.

I would highly recommend doing this at least once. We were there in the fall so the heat wasn't an issue, as for bugs, I don't remember that being an issue either.

We went last August and it was fun and I am glad we went but it was very HOT. As for character interaction - it was great for dancing but not for posing for pictures or autographs. We had fun, but it is not a must do on our list. I agree with the poster above to grab your seat first.

We went in May w/ 10, 8 and 4 year old; they all had a great time. I am going back in August w/ a different group of family - I'm a little worried about the heat - since it is outside and no AC. I can't remember if they had ceiling fans but everyone who saw the pictures wanted to go so I'm off to do it again.

We just got back last week, and Mickey's BBQ was AWESOME!! Even though it was outside, there is plenty of fans overhead. I was not hot, or chasing away bugs!! The interaction with the characters is great!! Also the food was wonderful!! You also get all you can eat icecream bars, (the ones they sell in the parks) my hubby ate 3 of those!! Highly recemmonded!!

We went earlier this month. We loved it. It is best described as a informal wedding reception. The BBQ food was good, the characters would dance with the kids, a man did lasso trick and a band played. DH said he would do it again. It is held in a covered outdoor pavilian on the old River Country property. You can still see the old slides that ended above the water and some other stuff.
