DALLAS AUGUST 20-OCTOBER 21
GAYLORD TEXAN RESORT & CONVENTION CENTER
Hosted by Radio Disney AM 620

I quess it's time to start thinking about a meet. The Gaylord looks like it would be a cool place to have one, just not sure how it would work there.

I've put a poll over on the DIS meet board. Let's start planning! Go

COOOOLLLLL!!!

Another Grapevine DIS meet!!! :sunny:

The Gaylord has lots of space... and a HUGE sports bar/snack bar area that would probably work for a DIS meet!

The biggest drawback is that you have to pay to park there.

I'm not a Texas DIS'r, but I do plan on heading south to see the Mickey Statues (and meeting SIL and family there, they live in Irving). So, if you all (or should I sat y'all) don't mind, I would love to know about any meeting plans. I've never met a DIS'r and would love it.
Incidentally, my mom grew up in Houston-just in case that gives me brownie points.

Thanks for the info, Janette :cool1:! I'll go see the Mickeys again even though I saw them all in December. What a great excuse for another meet. Of course we don't really need an excuse, do we :teeth:?

You have to pay to park at the Gaylord Texan? Maybe we should see how many DISers we can fit into one car :hyper:.

Yes, it is $7 to park there but I think if you eat at one of the restaurants, they will validate the parking for you. I really want to see those statues, especially since we don't plan on visiting Mickey again until 2006!

I quess we can park at Grapevine Mills and carpool

I haven't been there, I tried to see what the prices were for a convention room thought that might be neat but didn't find them posted on the site. Afraid it's one of those things "If you have to ask it's too much"

The bar sounds good and hotels are usually quiet on weekend afternoons so they may not notice if we invade.

Maybe we need some polls to pick a date. Aug 20th is the only weekend that I know I have plans right now.

We have 15 here in Chicago 'till 7/21...we are going tomorrow to see them and the new Millenium Park!:earsgirl: :earsboy:

Good luck in seeing them, maybve you could post some pic's? We were going to go to Boston to see them, but when I called to confirm that they were there, they said they only had 2 or 3 left because the rest were vandalized! Who would vandalize Mickey mouse?!!? I couldn't see trecking to Boston for that few, so we never made it :(

Ugh. That is awful. People can be so. . . .something. I don't even know the word for it.

Hmmm... I got 8 into my VW Beetle back in high school. I'll bet I could get more than that into my Expedition now! :teeth:

Hmmmm. I'll be interested in seeing when you plan to get together. With the crazy fall schedule we may not be able to work it out, but it sure sounds fun. Keep me posted.

I've been to Grapevine Mills before, but not since they built the Gaylord Texan. Can you walk from the Mills to the Texan?

Somebody said that if you eat at one of the resteraunts in the Texan, they will validate your parking. Anybody know if this rings true or not? And what kind of resteraunts are there? I guess I'll have to start researching. My birthday is in Sept so I guess I"ll have to bug DH to leave DS at DMIL's (about 20 min from the Mills) so we can go out to eat for my birthday and see the statues. :)

YAAAAAAAAAY! I'm so glad they are coming to DFW. I was beginning to think I'd never get to see them in person.

You cannot walk from Grapevine Mills to the Gaylord Texan.

There are several restaurants:

Old Hickory Steakhouse- quite pricey. It was okay, but I'd rather go to Del Frisco's if I'm dropping that kind of money at a steak house.

The Riverwalk Cafe- an all you can eat kind of thing, for about $25 at dinnertime. They have lots of options, and it's setup with lots of different stations (the setup is reminiscent of Boma, but with a Texas accent rather than African.)

Ama Lur- a Southwestern Tapas kind of thing, designed by Stephen Pyles. We haven't tried this one yet, but it's on my list of to-dos.

Texas Station- this is the sports bar, there's a dining area inside.

Some of the restaurants do validate parking... the steakhouse does, and the Riverwalk Cafe (it's a big buffet style restaurant) provided a discounted rate on our valet parking. I don't know about Ama Lur or Texas Station.

Per PERSON?!?!?!?!?!?!?:earseek:

I think I'd rather spend the $25-30 on dinner for both of us and then $7 on parking. Yikes. $25/person is a bit pricey for us at the moment with DS's lactose free formula being so expensive.

Thanks for the info,though. :)
