As expected I was awake at 4:00 (mainly because I needed the bathroom) but after going back to bed I couldn't get back to sleep so at 5:00 I gave up and started our first full day the way I always do - with Stacey 'Top 7 Must Sees at Disney' Aswad, although it has now been re-branded as 'Must Do Disney', has some new bits in it and seems a lot shorter (which some will see as a blessing)
I got up at 7:00 and after a wash and brush up we were out at 8:00 to go to Animal Kingdom. We had valet parked the car so we picked that up and it was only at that point that I realised that I had left our parking pass for the Disney parks in the room so I had to move the car round to self parking while I went back to the room and got it (those who have stayed at Boardwalk will know how far away from the car park the rooms can be!).
We were at Animal Kingdom for opening at 9:00 and first stop was Kilimanjaro Safaris where once again our truck was call sign Simba 1, and they were still having problems with poachers. They were also having problems with animals blocking the road, which meant the truck having to stop a lot and I managed to get a few good pictures.
These last two are especially for my friend Michelle
As a result of the safari taking longer than expected we didn't have time to get back for the 10:00 Festival of the Lion King show so we had a slow wander around looking in the shops and then stopped off in Pizzafari for a coke each. At 10:45 we walked round for the 11:00 FOTLK show where we walked straight in and were seated in the lion section.
This is easily my favourite attraction at WDW and, as I said to Dad, I could quite happily watch it every single day and not get tired of it - in fact I quite often listen to the finale section on www.d-cot.com but it is so much better seeing the performance as well.
The plan for today was just to spend the morning in the park so after the show we left the park and went off to Downtown Disney where we had a quick wander around World of Disney and the pin shop before going over to Earl of Sandwich where Dad had the Italian and I had a ham 'n' Swiss.
After lunch we went into the Christmas shop and Art of Disney before going back to the car. It was at this point that I discovered that my sat-nav wasn't getting any power from the accessory socket in the car and in fact the sat-nav battery had now run out completely. I wasn't sure if the problem was with the car or the lead so, as we were on our way to Wal-Mart anyway I decided to get a new lead there and eliminate that as the problem. Luckily I knew my way to Wal-Mart so we drove round there and picked up some strawberry cream cheese, bagels, fruit juice, beers, root beer, nibbles and the all important charging lead. By the time we had paid for everything the heavens had opened so we had to wait for the rain to stop before we could get back to the car. Once we did get back I tried the new lead but unfortunately it still wouldn't work so we decided that it must be the car socket that wasn't working. Luckily I can use the charger that we bought at home as it is a dual USB charger so I can run my phone and sat-nav from it and it will replace the clunky dual adaptor that I already have.
We drove back to BWV and decided to walk over to the Alamo desk at the Dolphin to see what we could do about swapping the car. Luckily we got there at 3:55 as they close at 4:00! We spoke to a very helpful lady who immediately offered to swap the car for us (although I'm still not sure if she only did that to get rid of us so she could go home!) and she gave us the keys for a new car. She told us to bring the old one round, and give the keys and paperwork to the valet and he would bring the new one round for us. We did that and were soon driving away in a new Ford Focus (6,000 miles on the clock as opposed to the 29,000 that the Toyota had) and went back to BWV. It was only once we were back in the room that Dad realised I might not have taken the sat-nav mount off of the windscreen of the old car - unluckily for me I hadn't.
We decided that the car wasn't going to be going anywhere before tomorrow so we would go back to the Dolphin on our way out for dinner tonight, which was going to be at Sweet Tomatoes at Crossroads.
We went out again at 5:45 and went back round to the Dolphin where we explained to the valet what had happened. He went round to the car and was back within a few minutes with my windscreen mount. From the Dolphin we went round to the new branch of Sweet Tomatoes at the Crossroads of Lake Buena Vista. I can see what people mean about it being like eating in a warehouse but it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.
We filled up on salads, soup and frozen yoghurt and, suitably stuffed, we made our way back to BWV where because it was still raining we decided to valet park. We were back at 8:00 and although the plan had been to wander in to Epcot the rain had put paid to that so we had to settle for watching Illuminations through the window tonight.
We spent the rest of the evening relaxing and were in bed by 10:00 ready for a day at Hollywood Studios tomorrow and our first ADR of the trip.
