My one son was doing fairly well with his potty training until baby brother arrived. Then he reverted pretty bad, which I think was mostly for attention, even though it was negative attention. I couldn't figure out what to do to persuade him to be a "big boy". Suddenly it hit me, and now I'm feeling a bit guilty about it, but not too much since it seems to be at least starting to work.
We have been talking about going back to WDW in September, and one day after another "accident" I told him that Mickey Mouse wouldn't let him come to Disney World if he kept having accidents. It was quite the reaction from my son, from surprise to somewhat anger with the facial expressions. He tried to reason that baby brother goes pee pee and poopy in his pants so he couldn't go either, but I convinced him that Mickey says it's okay for babies, but not for big boys like him. I then picked up the phone and faked a call to Mickey Mouse himself and my DS had a look of panic on his face. When I hung up, DS assured me he would be a big boy from now on. He's had his accidents here and there, but not nearly as often, but when he does he tries to talk mommy or me into not telling Mickey.
And now when he does go he makes sure to let me know to call up Mickey Mouse or tells mommy to have daddy call Mickey Mouse. He's even went so far as to get the phone for me when I busy with something in the basement. It was a bit embarassing with the looks I received in the men's restroom at the Motor City Bowl, when as we're walking out of the stall he's asking me to call Mickey Mouse for going pee pee in the potty.
It's even to the point now, that last night DW was putting him to bed, and he told her he needed to tell me something. I hear him coming down the steps and he comes up and says, "Daddy, I forgot, I went poopy in the potty, you need to call Mickey Mouse.". A couple times when I'm "on the phone" with Mickey, DS asks to talk to him, but I end the call telling DS that Mickey's getting ready for the fireworks or a parade, or something. (first time he did that, DW's facial expression was pretty funny)
Anyone else have to do something like this for a child who continues to have potty training issues? Any other ideas of Disney-related motivators I could be using? Desperately hoping this becomes a non-issue soon.
