Mickey in MK at rope drop?

Is meeting Mickey in MK typically a short wait very first thing in the morning or is it a bad idea as EVERYONE else thinks to do it as well being right there at the entrance. My son wants to meet him and I dislike back tracking to the front of the park just for 1 character later in the day. But I didn't know if that's a common strategy so his line gets bad fast. I know we won't be first in line at rope drop but plan to get there 15 min before open at least.

The wait can be very short at rope drop. The line Attendant CM can estimate the wait time for you especially because Mickey may not be visiting his guests in all of his available meeting rooms.

The line will be short, but the lines for everything else will be building pretty quickly while you're there.

I would wait until evening.

We're going on my son's bday so having Magic Mickey tell him Happy Birthday is pretty important to him. Both my kids want to meet lots of characters this trip and they don't do as well in character lines as other more interactive lines so I was thinking of getting a few Characters done early when they are in their best moods. They handle a 30 min Pooh ride wait well, a 30 min slow moving character line, not so much. Even with a FP we waited 20+ min to meet Mickey last trip and that was his max patience by evening time.

For the talking Mickey anytime I go I never see the line really long no matter what time of day. From what I've seen its been a pretty consistent wait of about 10-30 min. If you go within the first hour of the park being open I can't see you waiting very long at all

We have 3 MK days (2 are RD) and we are meeting Mickey first thing one day. I played around with changing my touring plan around to meet him as we leave for midday break and the wait was predicted to be longer. In the original touring plan, we are hitting BTMRR, JC, and PoC right after and the predicted waits are minimal so we are leaving meeting Mickey at rope drop.

Yea the Mickey talks and interacts with you. I went right at rope drop because I was a little embarrassed to stand in line for a character. When I walked in there was only 1 family in front of me with a little boy that was too scared to go up to Mickey.

Wait the Mickey in Main Street talks?!?! Can someone tell me more about this!?
Yep, Magic Mickey in MK talks and not just set phrases, actually interacts with you. Mouth moves just like Mickey in castle stage show. He sang my daughter Happy Birthday when we went on her birthday which was PRICELESS so needless to say we HAVE to do the same for my son this trip.

I'm glad to see my plan should work out! I was afraid it might be like Spaceship Earth at Epcot where everyone stops to do it as they come in the park so was super busy first thing. We have 2 MK days so I will gladly take a few shorter character lines early while everyone else rushes off to their rides 1 day.

We meet Mickey at rope drop before. The issue I had is that you typically get let into the park around 8:45/50 and he doesn't open until 9. We were second in line, but all I could think about was the 10 minutes I was wasting standing in line. :)

Is the opening show done that early? I've never seen it so if we successfully get my 2 kids there that early for the first time we plan to watch it vs rush inside.

I would say it's usually done by 8:50 and you're heading in. We always stood near the center and after it's over, you basically have to get going or get to a spot that you're not going to get run over by people coming in.

We saw talking Mickey first thing after rope drop on our first MK day in December. We were maybe the second or third family in line. Ten minute wait. Great experience. My youngest DS was afraid of any character before that but warmed up to magic Mickey so much that he had to give him a kiss and a hug by the time we were leaving.

Exactly this happened to us as well. It felt like it was after 9 even. It killed me to wait. I could've gotten 3 rides done in that time. I'd never do it again . We were into the park at 8:45 and not out until 9:30

The Mickey at Town Square Theater is truly magical and very convincing. He is waaay better than the other non-face characters. The costume is very well made and the voice is the Mickey voice your kids expect. I don't think I have ever seen my children smile as big as they did when they got that first hug from Mickey. We visited him shortly after FOF Parade. We weren't worried about it because everyone said the wait was never bad. The sign said 30 minutes but we waited an hour and a half. That was on a 4/10 crowd day. While it was well worth the wait. I would have rather used a FP+ on it and waited for something with a more interesting queue. If it's a must do, I would hit it first thing or use a FP+.

We also did it at RD once and while everyone was let in the park about 8:48, Mickey didn't actually meet until about 9:05 (even though we were first in line - they let us into the holding area at 9 but we didn't go in the room for a few minutes after that) and I also felt like we were behind the crowds then on Main St. and had missed the chance to do several rides without lines (because you then lose the time getting down MS to the next ride too).

Also, Mickey does NOT always talk so don't hype it up to your kids if you want to avoid disappointment. We went yesterday and he had "laryngitis" according to the CM. I think out of the last 3 times we've seen him, only once has the talking part worked.
