Hey hon, Spring Training tickets go on sale next week. Ive always wanted to go, can we?
Of course scooter-pie, anything that tickles your fancy. Do the Mets still train in Al Lang Field? We could go see my sister.
Uh, actually they moved to Port St. Lucie a while ago.
OK, whats that near?
Uh Fort Pierce. The East Coast. Theres uh .. umm .. uh well figure it out.
Drive or fly?
Drive, take the long scenic route.
As long as you do as little I-95 as possible. It is not my idea of a prime road trip when the highlight is counting how many South of the Border signs there are.
No problem, we can go through the Carolina and Georgian coasts on the way down and the Smokies and Shenandoah on the way back.
Well we cant get away with going to Florida without see my sister and the kids. Isnt there more Sports stuff for you to do in Tampa?
(light bulb illuminated dimly, but illuminated nevertheless) Hows this then, we go to Disney for a couple of days. Itll be relaxing. Well just go to Epcot and skip the Magic Kingdom. Saw enough of that in Anaheim. One of the days, well pop over to your sister. Its not far.
Disney? Do we have the time to plan?
Plan, what plan? You know weve been there before. No big deal. We stay nearby, drive over, stroll through the park, hop on a few rides, and walk right into restaurants. Easy, smooth, no problems. We did that last time we were there. We even left after two days beacuse there was noting left to see and we went to the Magic Kingdom thingee that time. We spend at day at Epcot and a day with your sister and head back north.
Uh, darling, there have been a few changes since February 1983. You may want to check this out before you think about any plans.
I guess you are right. Epcot wasnt finished when we were there. Ill log on and check around.
(Fast Forward a couple of hours visit shaken husband emerges from behind laptop)
Gee, you were on there a long time. How long was it?
T-t-t-two hours
What did find?
T-t-t-too much
Was two days the right amount of time?
T-t-t-too short
(After a nice cup of tea and a hug)
Well, Ive got good news and bad news. The bad news is that there is no way I will be able to figure this out on my own.
What do you mean? We got around on the Tokyo subway system. We drove through the streets of Naples. How hard could this be?
No no dear, you dont understand Its HUGE. I mean like a whole city huge. The only thing I recognized was The Land and all I remember about that was I wanted some cheese afterwards. And thats just Disney. Theres weeks worth of stuff to do that are not even part of it. The permutations and combinations of theme parks, resort hotels, outside motels, restaurants and activities are endless. We need to be there in 5 weeks. Itll take that long just to figure out ticket prices.
Well at least you can cut out restaurants. No sense overdoing that when we live a Metro North ride from Michelin starred quality restaurants.
Oh dear, youll be among so many of those in Orlando that it would take a while and much weight gain to sample them all.
Really?
No lie. There are 7 with food ratings in Zagat of at least 26.
Youre kidding. Thats more than many European cities! Is that the good news?
No, better. Remember those cruise forums we used to figure out what to do when we took that cruise a couple of years ago.
Yes, go on.
Remember how that was a whole different world unto itself that we had no idea that even existed? That the people who posted were nuts over cruising to the point of some sort of weird cult?
Yes, that was very interesting, wasnt it? Very enthusiastic people. You have to admire the passion.
Passion? Passion? You call that passion? Those people are rank amateurs compared to these people on this DIS board. Yikes! Talk about fanatics. Its not only the ones that go year after year, it seems that people post just once about even thinking of going and they are hooked like Landru in the Star Trek episode "Return of the Archons" (Mickey guide us ).
Well you cant rely on forums. You know how nasty those people in the guitar forums were. Rather than help, they would just criticize you for some wrong assumption or even the cruise forum where you better agree with their opinion or else. You want to deal with that?
No hon, you gotta see this. These people are the friendliest, most informative, most helpful group youve ever seen. Disney calls itself the Happiest Place on Earth, well this is certainly the Happiest Forum on Earth. They are so useful that all I have to do is read one of the other threads and Im getting all of my questions answered. One other problem though.
What is it dear?
Cant really explain it. I have this weird voice in my head that keeps saying Gotta Go Gotta Go
