Hi,
We are thinking of spending xmas at Disney - any one have any experiance of this and who to travel with?

Is it best to try and get a package or get the hotel/flight seperately.

any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Welcome to DISboards.

Been 5 times at Xmas, were you thinking before Xmas or Xmas thru New Year?

I am in retail so I can't fly until Xmas day or Boxing day. It is without doubt the busiest time of year, no cars left at rental desks, 30 mins to do a 10 min journey, 2-3 hour lines for rides, parks closing full to capacity etc etc. Its a nightmare but on the other hand its also the best time of year to go, we love being there, its magical at Xmas.

Have you been before? I would never advise anyone to go at that time of year for a 1st visit, you don't get done half what you would at a quieter time of year, unless you can go earlier in Dec, then its quieter.

You have to look at all options, I prefer to buy everything seperate but out last Xmas trip was a Virgin Holidays package, cost us £580pp for VA flights and a hotel, cheaper than flight only but it rarely happens like that.

Welcome to the forums, Frank. :wave2:

I've never been at Christmas itself because I can't bear the thought of all those crowds. If you're able to be flexible with dates, I'd recommend going earlier in December when you'll be able to experience all the decorations and special events without all the madness. I actually prefer to go just after New Year because it really gives you something to look forward to during those usual anti-climatic weeks after the buzz of Christmas. The crowds are still pretty busy during the days following New Year's Eve, but they disappear overnight at the end of that week. The decorations are usually still up until the end of that week, too, although the atmosphere you get during the build-up is missing. During the winter months, the weather can be very hit and miss. We've always been very lucky, but frosts aren't out of the question.

The package v DIY question is a tricky one. The type of holiday we want doesn't fit neatly into a package and I know I'm always going to be able to source it much more cheaply myself. I actually get pleasure from spending hours on the internet hunting down the deals and putting it altogether. If that's not your bag - and it is very time-consuming - a package could be the way to go, although you'll still have to invest some time in finding the best of those. One factor to consider is that scheduled flights can't be booked sooner than 11 months ahead of your return journey and have to be paid in full at the time of booking. Packages (including flights) can normally be booked 18 months in advance and can be secured with a deposit.

If you are wanting christmassy without the crowds I can recommend the first two weeks of December - great time to go.

Been one year boxing day til just after new year. Only did universal and it was manic eg took us over an hour just to get out of the car park on new years eve.

For xmas itself there are no offers at disney like free dining as they obviously don't need incentives to fill rooms.

welcome :yay:
