It's been a while since I had them at the Mint Julep Bar, but when I did, they were not hot and fresh. I'm not sure about the drink. I've had it once at CO and hated it.
I can't comment on whether they are the same because I only got them at the mint julep bar. But I got some last week right before the second showing of Fantasmic and I had to wait about 5 minutes for them to come out. They were piping hot...my 6 year old couldn't even hold them for a few minutes. They were in a bag and had lots of powdered sugar in the bag. I had to shake up the bag to coat them, as the first one I pulled out was rather bland tasting. Overall, I thought they were good and was glad I tried them, although I found them to be overrated.
I'm not sure about Cafe Orleans but I know the mint juleps are the same at Blue Bayou and the Mint Julep bar. I would think it would be the same at CO too.
They are the same beignets, but served differently. Mint Julep Bar beignets are in a paper bag with tons of powdered sugar. Messy but fun. We've always managed to get nice hot ones. The Cafe Orleans beignets are dusted with powdered sugar and come with 2 sauces: fruit coulis and creme anglaise. https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disneyland/cafe-orleans/menus/
The mint julep is the same at Cafe Orleans, Blue Bayou, French Market, and the Mint Julep Bar (I've had it at all four). The only main difference is that at Cafe Orleans and the Blue Bayou, you get free refills while dining.
Well I am glad I read this thread!! We will be eating at Café Orleans and I was planning on getting some from there but now I think I will get us some to sit down and wait for F! (we are getting a spot after our CO dinner)

That was our experience as well -- we had to wait because they were served fresh & hot. DS6 said there was too much sugar, and wouldn't eat his. DH was happy that he got extras
Funny story, we told our sons we were going to get "doughnuts" because they were little and didn't understand what beignets were. When they saw they were square they both started crying! Then we realized because they weren't they typical doughnut shape! So DH put some powdered sugar in their mouths and they immediately stopped crying and wanted the beignets! LOL. Now it's a tradition to get some. So yummy, fresh and warm. Mmmmm
True!! And I sometimes wonder if the Mickey shape is partially responsible for them not being as good to me? Maybe they cook differently! I sometimes make them at home and have tried rectangles, circles, squares, and Mickey shapes. The Mickeys tend to be smaller so less of the soft inside, but then again my cooking method is very hit or miss. I find it hard to keep the oil temp constant so one batch may be different from the next regardless of shape.
ETA: the Mickeys have more surface area so less inside part. They're not exactly smaller, though the ones in DL are smaller than the Jazz Kitchen rectangles, I think.
