Hi all!

DD was just recently diagnosed with a peanut allergy:sad1:

Does anyone know if the Mickey ice cream bars are "safe" for people with peanut allergies? I was really looking forward to sharing one with her when we go for our trip in September.

Does anyone have any advice at all for dining at Disney with a peanut allergy? How difficult is it to find food that is safe? Should I plan to bring alot of my own snacks and things for her to have, rather than risk dining out? We've been to WDW many times, but we're new to the world of food allergies and I'm still learning. She will be 2 at the time, so will eat off the kids menu or my plate.

Thanks!

Disney is supposed to be absolutely amazing for people with food allergies, make sure you have it noted on all your reservations when you make your ADRs and a chef will come talk to you at your table.

There is also someone you are supposed to email for information, I'm sure someone will have the address. You can ask her all about ingredients. Each CS place should also have a book with ingredients in it.

ETA: Using the search function I found that Mickey Bars were safe [contained no nuts and not made in a facility that uses nuts] the last time anyone posted about it, *but* Disney has changed ice cream suppliers (from Nestle to Blue Bunny) since then so you should check to be safe. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=29188134

The above poster is absolutely right. Disney is amazing when it comes to handling food allergies.

For any ADRs, tell them about your DD's peanut allergy when you make the reservation and when you arrive at the restaurant. The chef will come out and discuss your menu choices with you and make sure that the food is prepared without any cross contamination.

Also this website: http://www.wdwinfo.com/tips_for_touring/allergies.htm

lists contact info for the parks. If you email them, they will send you a list of all the snack items that are safe for peanut allergies (I believe the Mickey Bar will be OK but you should always double check).

Also CS restaurants all have books with ingredients for each menu item. Ask to speak with a manager and they will tell you which meals are safe and go over the ingredients with you. Lots of kids go to disney with multiple food allergies so just having the peanut one will be more than manageable. :yay:

If you'd like to send my your email in a private message I will forward a response I got from their person in charge of food allergies. It has several attachments with ingredients/safe and unsafe food choices. Its very detailed. I tried to click on the "email this person" option but I'm unable to attach the files here.

but Mickey bars: not completely safe. the factory won't give the "ok" to the chocolate covering the ice cream due to cross contamination possibilities. That being said my DS who is HIGHLY allergic has eaten them with no problem. I know there are a whole range of "comfort levels" people have. We felt okay with doing it.:flower3:

Thanks everyone!

You've made me feel much better about our trip! :flower3:

DD has had a Mickey bar before, on our trip last year in September, and she was fine. She LOVED it and we have some of the cutest pictures of her enjoying (and wearing) her treat. I would hate to deprive her of another if I don't have to, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see how I feel at the time.

This is all still new to us, so I guess I'm somewhat paranoid at the moment. Maybe I'll be more relaxed about it by the time September rolls around.

here's a Mickey Bar tip.

To keep it from melting all over your hands in the FL sun....

toss a soda cup lid from the food court in your park bag - one for every kid who is going to have the bars. Before unwrapping the ice cream, slide the lid onto the stick. drips will be caught!

Again, Disney is AMAZING with food allergies! My son has multiple allergies and in our last two trips not one issue! He gets treated like a normal kid and even gets desserts in a restaurant. His allergies are dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish (super super severe even to touch and smell), and shell fish. He outgrew his wheat and egg allergy.

There is a contact at Disney:
Brenda.Bennett@disney.com
I emailed her already for our June trip with our ADR numbers and she takes care of us!

1) You might in trouble here.
2) I am nuts about Mickey Bars.
3) I don't know of that counts toward your allergy.
