Mickey and Minnie during early entry

On our last visit to the Magic Kingdom, we had breakfast reservations at the castle. We had a PS time that allowed us to enter the park early. Not only were we lucky to get a PS for breakfast at the castle, we were lucky in the fact that Mickey and Minnie were both in front of the castle available for pictures and autographs. Can anyone tell me if we were just extremely lucky or is this an event that you can expect?

Please tell me some of you have experienced seeing Mickey and Minnie in front of the castle before the park opens! We have made breakfast reservations solely for this purpose. I am hoping this was not a once in a lifetime event. Any comments you have are welcomed!

Don't know if this will help you or not since I have never have experienced an early entry breakfast, but we did the KTTK tour in October and was let into the park early with the breakfast crowd (I think it was around 8:00am). We got to walk around on deserted Main Street while waiting for our tour to start and we didn't see any characters at all.
