CAST: I (Laura) and DGH (Disney Grumpy Husband)
IN: Jan 2nd Newport Bay Club
OUT: Jan 6th
MONDAY 2nd of January (Trip day)
Unfortunately free frequent flyers tickets are available only for the less crowded hours of the day, so our flight was at 13.30, when businessmen dont travel. DGH travels quite a lot to Paris and claims that to be at the airport one hour in advance is more than enough to check-in, cross the security and enjoy the Frequent Flyer Lounge facilities. I was quite anxious and asked for some more spare time we had chosen a low cost parking - far from the airport, so I booked it at 10.00 (can you imagine DGH grumping?).
I convinced DGH we needed an early wakeup because he needed to defrost the car
and at 9.30 we were at the airport a grumpying DGH tried to switch our tickets to catch the plane before but free tickets dont give too much flexibility!!
BTW, we checked-in, had breakfast and spent some time at the Frequent Flyer Lounge, where we got free drinks and snacks. Then I made a stop at the Duty Free (Duty Free dont exist anymore! grumped DGH) where I bought an Eau de Parfum. I had to explain once more to DGH what is the difference between Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette DGH is still convinced that the unique difference is the price !!!!
The flight had a reasonable delay after all it was an Alitalia flight, travelling among frozen airports and, with our free tickets, we cannot complain !
While boarding I discovered we were upgraded to the more comfortable seats of First Class !
Nice seat but I would not have paid one extra Euro (one extra free mile?) to travel more comfortably for JUST one hour trip.
At 16.00 we were landing and, after recovering our luggage, we boarded the VEA shuttle at 17.10.
Le Monde forecast was « Partiellement couvert » (partially clouded); it was already dark when we left the airport but we still appreciated that forecast was good and that there was no rain !
Newport Bay Club was supposed to be the first stop of the VEA shuttle, but we had unexpected stops at all neighbour hotel (Kyriad, Movenpick, Explorer, Holiday Inn) which was nice because we had never seen them before and who knows ? maybe one day we could be their guests !!! (We are loosing time grumped DGH)
