DS2, 5, train-mad

We had set the alarm for 7.30, everyone up and dressed quickly and round to the restaurant for breakfast at 7.55. We had been told there are queues from 8am and sure enough queues did build up from that time, not really due to lack of tables but speed of processing people. This was the busiest morning that we saw. Our tickets were for 10.30 but it didn't seem to matter, everyone was seated on a first come first served basis. No queues to get food.

We really enjoyed breakfast here. Very good spread of cheese, ham, other meats, yogurts, nice fresh fruit salad and lots of large baskets of cereals to help yourself to. Then bread rolls, croissants and pain au chocolat, butter, jam, chocolate spread all available. Coffee tea and juice from dispensers could have been better. I think Hunter's Grill had a toaster but we ate in Beaver's Creek every morning. CMs very friendly, everything kept spotless and food replenished regularly. We were out by 8.45 and returned to the room to prepare for the day.

We enjoyed our walk round the lake to the Disneyland Park. Quite cloudy and chilly this morning with drizzle :guilty: but we had our waterproof jackets. (DH's jacket is bright orange which proved useful for spotting him in the crowds!) We entered the park at 9.40 and waited for Rope Drop in Discoveryland. At 10am we headed straight for Buzz for our first ride. A great ride, really colourful and interactive as you are shooting at targets with laser guns. We purchase ride photos and arrange to have them sent back to hotel (2 for E20).

We then join the smallish queue for Autopia which is due to open in 5 mins. We wait about 20 mins for our go, cute cars driving round a track, a bit tame for anyone who can really drive but the boys enjoy it.

I head off to get tickets for Lion King Show just before 10.45, saying I will meet the others at the station. We have walkie talkies which are great if you need to split up. I join the small queue and it starts moving just before 11am and I get tickets for the 12pm show. DH thought I meant Main St station and is queing there for a train ride. I am confused as Discoveryland station is not open yet and yet they are saying they are on the platform! :confused3 We finally realise what has happened and I walk back to Main St station to find I can't get through to them as they are about to board. They go on their ride round the park and I have a wander through the arcade, stopping for a coffee in Cable Car Bake Shop.

The boys get off at Discoveryland and I meet them there just in time to take our seats for The Lion King. An enjoyable show, DH is impressed by the waterfall effects. Some great singing and dancing on show. :cool1:

Time for lunch, we head round to the Pizzeria Della Notte for pizza and pasta. Quite nice food, a heavy shower while we are eating. DH dashes off for a go on Space Mountain and we meet him back in Discoveryland for another go on Buzz using Fastpasses acquired earlier. This time the Buzz ride kept stopping to allow wheelchairs on and off so it was easier to get a high score as targets and lasers still active! We all reach Level 3, DH level 4. DH then heads back to Space Mountain for another go while I take the boys on Star Tours. This time we are seated at the back which makes for a bumpier ride. I leave feeling a little queasy. DS2 comments that the pilot hasn't got any better! :rotfl2:

We then stroll round to the castle and explore upstairs. It's raining again so quite busy inside. We head down to the dungeon to visit the dragon, it is quite dark down here so a good atmosphere. Boys are not scared though. We then head out and buy some sweets from the Confiserie des Fees and have a quick peek in the Christmas shop, where a CM is sweeping up broken baubles!

We walk round to Fronteirland and check out Big Thunder Mountain. I really want to go on this but Fastpasses are all gone and it's a 40 min wait so we leave it for now. The boys love the cowboy shop and DS1 decides he needs some more bits for his cowboy outfit, and purchases a set with a gun, belt, holster and badge. We buy him a Mickey cowboy hat as the one he has brought with him is very crumpled. We then went to Phantom Manor, which was really good, very spooky but nothing actually scary. DS2 was very brave, especially when a group of French teenagers started screaming for no reason! ;)

We then headed back to the central hub to watch the parade. We got a good spot near the front, the boys managed to sit on the kerb. We enjoyed the dancers and the floats and the music! :sunny:

We visit the dragon again on our way to Fantasyland, where we try the Snow White ride. Boys not very impressed. We grab a snack of chocolate crepes and DH and the boys explore the labyrinth while I have a sit-down!

It's FP time for Buzz again so we zap some more Zs before heading out of the Park. :cool1: We had arranged to meet some friends from the village where we live who are also at DLP this week. We meet up at Panoramagique at 6pm. We go to Billy Bobs saloon for cocktails and beer and catch up on what's been happening. A large group of children play cowboys (ours included)! Our friends are here with relatives and have booked dinner elsewhere so they head off back to Newport Bay at 7.45. In hindsight we should have gone and booked a table/ been put on the list and got a pager while we were having drinks, but we hadn't so we had to wait an hour for a table at Planet Hollywoods. There was also a similar wait at the steakhouse when we checked. I got a Pager from PH and took the boys for a wander in the shops while DH went back to the room to collect The Brit's Guide book for the 20% off voucher!

We met back in the bar at PH and admired some of the props. Exactly on time we were called and given a table downstairs. Food was really nice, although 30 mins wait for it to arrive. The boys had hot dogs and fries, I had chicken and prawn teriyaki with rice, DH had ribs and jacket potato. We shared a carafe of red wine. Boys had ice cream for pudding but we decided against it. Bill was about E65 with the discount. Wandered back to the hotel and all in bed by 10.30pm.

This is great, thanks. Brekkie sounds excellent.

We love Buzz at WDW, can't wait to take DD on it :Pinkbounc

We have walkie talkies which are great if you need to split up.

Oooh, can you hire these at the park or did you bring them with you?

We brought our walkie talkies with us. Haven't seen anything about hiring them. Quite a few people seemed to be using them as you could hear others talking sometimes.
They were great if you want to split up.

A lovely day and report, I have a feeling if Buzz had been open when we were there, we'd have ended up riding it over and over too. :goodvibes

"DH1 decides he needs some more bits for his cowboy outfit, and purchases a set with a gun, belt, holster and badge. We buy him a Mickey cowboy hat as the one he has brought with him is very crumpled."

I realise now you meant DS1 but when I read it the first time I thought you were talking about your husband and I was thinking - now why can't my DH be a bit more like that. :lmao:

Ooops! Yes DS1 is the cowboy not DH!!!!

DH was more a hunter-gatherer, tracking down Fastpasses for his family and returning triumphant! (Well... it gave him something to do.... and he doesn't like queuing!)

I am really enjoying your trip report. It sounds like you had a great time. At least your DH comes with you to the park mine is inclined to stay in the hotel and wait for us to come back.

Another wonderful trip report Michelle, I too thought 'what a brilliant husband' until I realised it was your son you were talking about!

Another great report :)
Good tip about Buzz when the ride stops :thumbsup2

Another good report - don't know how you remember all the details - do you keep a diary and write it up whilst you're still there? BTW, we went to the same Lion King show as you on the same day - as you look towards the stage, we were sat in the right hand section, at the front - I thought it was a really good show. Also waited in the queue at 11am (whilst the other two were on Space Mountain.)

Yes I did take some notes while I was there, and then wrote up Fri and Sat when we got back. Without that I wouldn't remember the details of times etc. now! :sunny:
