So we get in to MIA at like 6pm and then don't leave until the next day at 10am. Wondering possibly where to stay? I was thinking in the beach area somewhere?

A plus would be good food options which I hear Cuban food is really good in Miami.

We have only been through Miami never too the city before and since we are really not visiting its hard when looking online. Maybe even an airport hotel is the way to go with just ubering around in the evening?

It's definitely not worth the longish drive to Miami Beach for such a short time. I would stay at one of the many airport hotels from which you can easily Uber to any number of restaurants for dinner, without having to worry about traffic for your flight the next morning. We have stayed at the Residence Inn at the airport but there are many others.

Well it’s Miami so if you want to go party all night at the clubs you wouldn’t even need a hotel room just a place to stash your bags 🤪. The fountainbleau is one of the classic Miami Beach hotels that’s still really nice it has a beautiful pool and a bunch of restaurants and club LIV where the Miami Heat partied it up when they last won the championship. Traffic isn’t so bad getting to the airport on the weekend, allow for longer if you are trying to get there for 8am for a 10am flight. The airport hotel might be your best bet if you are coming in from a international flight just have some food Ubered and catch up on some Zzzzs before takeoff in the morning.

Perhaps not the exact answer you are looking for but we've had a layover of that time length/overnight at MIA. We stayed at the hotel located in the airport. Super convenient. By the time we landed, grabbed our luggage , a bite to eat and checked in it was later in the evening anyway.

There’s a holiday inn across from the cruise port. It’s 15 minutes from the airport. Lots of places nearby to eat.

You can get on the train and be in the Brickell district in 30 minutes. I would recommend the Hampton Inn Brickell Street. The train station is right across the street and there are lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. A taxi or Uber would take 10 minutes depending on the traffic. There are lots of hotels around the airport. It really depends on what you want to do and how much sleep you think you need.
