We are flying from Chicago to Orlando with a connecting flight in Miami. I 'm using reduced points to fly on this trip for four of us so that is why no direct flight. We land at 2:00 in Miami. Flight from Miami is scheduled to leave at 2:45.

Is 45 minutes enough to make the connecting flight in Miami? Just want to know if I should plan now on missing it. But I know the schedule is bound to change again since it has changed 3 times already since I booked it. Originally we had a comfortable 2 hour window.

Yes, if you're connecting on the same airline, 45 minutes meets the minimum connecting time at MIA. I'm assuming you're flying AA. Be aware that their computer would not accept a booking that does not meet the minimum. It's their job to get you to Orlando if they sold you the ticket.

By the way, when you check in at Chicago, ask the check-in agent nicely, "Is there any way that you can just put us on the flight going directly to Orlando?" If there are plenty of seats the agent likely has the authority to re-route you onto the direct (non-stop) flight to MCO, at no charge to you. That also opens seats on their non-stop to MIA which could be more lucrative for them since MIA is a hub for AA. (Again, I've assumed you're flying AA.)

45 minutes should be enough. Traffic @ MIA can get a little delayed due to thundershowers, especially in the 3-4:30p window on late summer afternoons, but that will affect most flights.

Thank you both. Yes, we are flying AA. Maybe I will have to inquire regarding a direct flight to Orlando.
