Does anyone have any suggestions for hotels near the port of Miami? We're so familiar with everything at PC, this will be all new for us. Looking for something nice, not ultra fancy for just one night before the cruise.

We stayed at the La Quinta near the airport, filled with other cruisers. Nothing fancy but clean and the price was right. Be sure to request a non smoking room if that is important to you.

Comfort Suites Miami Airport North. Free shuttle to and from both the airport and the port, free hot breakfast, free wireless internet. Hotel is clean (looks brand new!) and the staff is great.

We're beginning to look for Miami hotels as well. Do either of these have a nice pool? We're not looking for anything too fancy but it would be nice for the kids to have a chance to swim that day before the cruise.

Looked at lots of places, from "airport hotels" to Downtown Miami to Miami Beach. Airport area were least expensive - and that is something, as the Miami hotels are pretty $$. We booked the Comfort Inn, too. Cost was reasonable, shuttles and breakfast. There is a pool according to the web site, don't know if it will qualify as "nice" but it's a pool! We will have 2 nights before the cruise - hoping that they can also shuttle us to public transportation so we can see some of Miami and maybe shopping and beach.

It's important to note that this hotel offers free shuttle to POM if you stay there before your cruise, but only back to the hotel from POM if you also are booked to stay there after your cruise. So if you are returning from your cruise and headed to MIA, it's best to just grab a taxi or arrange your own shuttle or to disney transfer to the airport. So the only way you get 2 way free shuttle service to and from the port is if your cruise is bookended with a stay at Comfort Suites North.

This hotel seemed most ecconomical for us, we are booked here in April. It has good reviews on Trip Advisor. :thumbsup2

Where staying at the Marriott Biscayne Bay cap is 13.00 to the Port and hotel was 140 a night.

Just heard about a new Cambria Suites hotel opening next month near airport. Got a great rate for our April 2014 stay. Didn't check to see if this hotel has shuttle options as we are taking a taxi to port. We got a much better rate at Cambria than the rate we had for the Hampton Inn Blue Lagoon.

Bump!

We too are staying at the LQ near the airport the night before. It got good ratings on TA and they were very friendly when I called about the shuttle to the port.

Does anyone have any suggestions for after the cruise? We are staying 3 additional nights in Miami to explore the area after our cruise.

We have a mixed group - DH, myself, and DS age 8, also with my parents (DS's grandparents). Looking for a reasonable (under $200 night) place that doesn't have to be right on the beach, but must have a good pool.

We will have a rental car so the greater Miami area is all an option.

Haven't stayed yet, but we will be at the Beachcomber in Pompano Beach a week from today. Very reasonable and right on the beach. Good reviews on Trip Advisor. I'll be sure to report back!

I believe they offer the shuttle back if you book the cruise parking package as well, for those who are driving. We did not need a return shuttle because our cruise was one-way. ;)

I'm staying at the holiday inn POM-downtown. Got it for $150, my friend stayed there for a basketball game before and she said its nice. It'll only be for one night so idk about amenities and such. And with shuttles no clue on that either since I'm taking amtrak down and hopping on their subway/monorail type thing and plan to walk over to the port (hopefully I can anyways).
..anyone know for sure if there's a pedestrian bridge over to the port??

we stayed at the intercontinental miami and had a great experience there.

cab fares were reasonable and the room was great. there is also a park across the street the kids liked and it's walking distance from a number of shops (including some liquor stores for those last minute carry on items,) restaurants and bayside (which is a bit of a tourist trap.)

We are seriously considering this hotel for a stay prior to sailing.

Would you mind sharing some more specifics - how far/long does it take to get from Miami airport to hotel and from hotel to Port? Did you use a cab and was it costly? Also, did you have breakfast in the hotel or elsewhere did you find it reasonable?

Any other thoughts on the hotel in general most appreciated!

Regards,

Happy to answer any questions you might have. Below is a general summary for ya:

Transportation was a big concern for me as well and we did use cabs. They worked out great (personally I hate waiting for shuttles and then being crammed in with a lot of folks)

- MIA to Intercontinental: 15 to 20 minutes, ~ $25 dollars on the meter
- Intercontinental to POM: 5 to 10 minutes (mainly depending on traffic lights), about I think it was just a little under $15 (maybe $13 or $14?) on the meter
- POM to MIA: ~ 20 minutes, flat rate which I think was $24

For dinner, we walked across the street to the park and let the kids play for a while on the playground and run around some. We then walked over to bayside marketplace - which was pretty good. Next time I might explore some of the other nearby options.

Breakfast, we just grabbed some stuff from the starbucks in the lobby of the hotel.

They hotel was really nice; very comfortable, well maintained, clean - we were there in february so we couldn't take advantage of the pool, but it looked nice as well. If you're lucky you might get a room with a view of the port.

If we cruise out of Miami again, we will definitely stay there again.

Sbridgeman - TY VERY MUCH!

I've been stressing over making a decision on the hotel - but I think we are done now!

Thanks again,

We leave for the Miami intercontinental hotel on Friday. We are staying there before our non DCL cruise leaving on Saturday. Glad to hear the excellent reviews.

Tip advisor had the Hampton inn downtown as the top hotel.

But for lower cost look at those in the blue lagoon area around the airport. Here you get free parking and breakfast.

This December I was able to get a great deal at the Conrad (few points and dollars). Otherwise I would stay at either Hampton downtown or blue lagoon one.
