Has anyone ever made the drive to Miami from WDW for a day trip? Is it worth it?

The thought never crossed my mind--the drive is three and a half hours. Seven hours total in the car does not sound like something I would be interested in on vacation. If you are looking for a nice beach, Clearwater beach and Cocoa beach are much closer.

We are going to try this in about two weeks, so I will let you know. I always wanted to go to miami while we were down there, but had the same concerns as you. Undercover tourist has a day bus trip to the shopping district and south miami beach that we tried out last year just to get the feel of the trip. Highway all the way, loved it. Completely different feel than central florida. So this year we are trying it on our own. Just be on the road early and don't stay until midnight.

Use Google Maps for a mileage estimate. It's probably around 450 miles round trip. No, I would not consider doing it unless on a tour bus and a professional driver was doing the driving. Even this way, you're looking at a 16-hour day.

I live down in Miami and when I was younger I used to do several one day trips throughout the year.I would get up at 4am drive to Orlando spending the day at the parks leaving and driving back to get home around 2-3am.Basically almost 24 hours and I acknowledge it was insane.I stopped doing it about 5 years ago, just not safe and you grew to hate the drive. Now I go and stay a minimum of 3 days.I think I did that drive so many hundreds of times over the years that today I don't even take the turnpike or 95,I go up US 27,takes longer and goes through some ugly towns around the lake but overall is less stressful, not as boring, free and from Sebring north there's a bunch of towns and places to stop to eat. Also once you get to I-4 you're basically 5 minutes away from Disney.
