Miami Beach South Accomodation help

I'm attending a function at Loews in Miami Beach South ... but my budget doesn't match the hotels price range, plus I have my wife and two kids (12 and 11). I know nothing about Miami, but I'm hoping that someone could give me a recommendation for a hotel in the $150 to low $200 range in that area. Or a hotel nearby and I could cab it to the Loews.

Big thing for me, is that my wife and kids are safe and have something to do ... anyone?

Have you looked at Priceline or Hotwire? Better Bidding is a website that will give you an idea of what's available. I would stick to 4 stars and up, since some of the cheaper places are pretty dumpy and really just crash pads for people in their 20's who are there to party. A larger resort will be quieter, have nicer pools and are more likely to be directly on the beach. I plugged some random dates in September in and there's a 5 star in Miami Beach (north of the Loews, but not too far a cab ride) for $159/night on the beach.

Edit: looking at their standard rates, it looks like it might be the Fontainebleau, which is gorgeous and the kids will have a great time in their pool. Definitely would recommend it.
