This is DH and Is first time doing the MHP!!! Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for making the experience one to remember? We will probably bring our own bags for goodies, and maybe simple costumes. What does everyone else like to do?

Exciting!!
We go every year. My best advice would be to read about everything the park offers for the party, read the big Halloween thread here and then decide your must do attractions. You can get a lot done during the party time but not everything in the park.
We don't focus on trick or treating. Our girls dress up and we trick or treat towards the end of the night. We mainly focus on rides and character meet and greets. We don't usually have time to watch the fireworks in front of the castle (we half watch from wherever we might be at the time). We don't watch the cavalcade either. But we ride just about everything that we want and meet a fair amount of characters. And we always have a blast! Make sure your costumes are comfy and wear comfy shoes. In always feel bad for women in heels with their costumes limping around!

I second the recommendation to hop over to the HalloweenTime SuperThread! There is an FAQ about MHP, plus lots of fun discussions about HalloweenTime at DLR.

In terms of costumes, you'll see a wide range. Everything from very professional looking costumes to the kinds you buy at the Halloween Super Store to t-shirts to no costumes at all. It's a good enough mix that you won't feel out of place regardless of what you wear. Just, as Dot2Vegas said, remember that you'll be in DL, so plan accordingly (in other words, comfy shoes, layers in case it's warm/cool, etc.). :)

For trick-or-treating, I would wait on that until the second half of the party. The lines are pretty long initially, but taper down as the night progresses. Most of the candy stops are actually treat trails, so you can amass a pretty good stash of candy quickly. Most stations have similar things, but some have different items, so keep an eye out of less common treats.

The second Cavalcade tends to be less busy than the first. Fireworks are popular, so plan to spend a bit of time waiting for that if you want to see fireworks. Characters are scattered around the park, but the longest wait is usually for the villains and Jack Sparrow (assume he's there again this year). So if you want to see them, plan on spending time in line. Jack and Sally are normally out as well, but you can see them during the day (they are not party exclusive).

Eat before the party. You only have five hours to get in all of the MHP exclusive activities, so I wouldn't spend it eating (unless you grab a CS meal and eat while waiting in line or for fireworks/Cavalcade).

Thank you for the reference -- I do appreciate it -- although I'm not sure how many people will want to "read the big Halloween thread"! That sounds too daunting, and then they think they have to read the whole thing -- which is not the case! It helps to skim the posts on the first page because they will answer many questions. Mainly, I created the thread for discussion, and as a place to read and chat in the same spot, and also to cut down the number of pop-up threads about Halloween Time and the MHP.

However, when questions are being answered elsewhere, then people usually don't have any reason to go to the Halloween thread. So, either way, it works out for the people seeking info -- which is great!

I feel like this is going to sound snarky and I am trying to present it in the nicest way possible (difficult in writing!) so please don't take it the wrong way...but isn't that what folks do on the board? Suggest to others to read a specific thread that contains information about what they are planning? I feel like I see that time and again. And that usually is the best suggestion for people seeking info. Not trying to stir the pot, just curious.

Maybe for some threads it is best to read the whole thing, but not for all of them. That's why people get intimidated. They feel they need to read a whole thread, page after page, from start to finish.

I have a section in the first post on page 1 of both the Halloween thread and the Christmas/Holiday Season Superthread that is specifically titled "You Don't Have to Read the Whole Thread," because I am trying to make it clear that simply skimming down page 1, and perhaps skimming the last page or two of a thread to see what we were discussing, will be fine -- and then they are welcome to jump in at any time.

When people think that they have to read an entire big thread -- especially if there are many pages -- it scares them away.
