I have seen both fantasmic shows. I saw Disneylands at the beginning of last year, and I have seen MGM's many of times. And for me I think that Disney World's Fantasmic is better. I know that your thinking that I am biased because I have seen the Disney World version more times. But I am not. I will just state the facts.

First the mood of seeing the two shows. After along day at Disneyland you squish your body into that little Frontierland area that is crowded as heck and stand there an hour before the show. Then stand through out the whole show. Yes the show is the perfect way to end the day in the most happiest place on earth, but why do we have to stand in this little area, and how angrey I get when the other families try to barge into my space that I have been saving for over an hour. Oh how stress ful this is. Now lets go to MGM at Disney World. The show at MGM does not have as Magical feel as Disneyland, because the show is at MGM and not the Magic Kingdom. But it has a special feel, as you are about to see a Hollywood big production. You take a right past the Twilight Zone and enter the Hollywood Hills theater. You take a long hike up a hill, until it feels you left the park, and you enter this huge place that has its own bathrooms and consesion stand. An Usher then points you to your row, and then get this you SIT DOWN. No standing, but sitting. Sometimes they have pree show entertainment that gets the crowd to play games and and do the largest wave you ever seen. There is more a special family atmosphere there, then standing up at Disneyland. Now the show starts.

Show diffrences. Both shows start the same but then the jungle seen is diffrent. Disneyland brings out the Jungle Book, While MGM brings out the lion king. Now I like the Jungle Books water float better because it has a known character on it in King Lue. But the Lion King show is better with all of those animals on the Island, while Disneyland just has the large Jafar snake that just does not work as well. Plus the music is better for MGM's because they are playing a known tune in I just cant wait to be King, while DL is playing just some drum beats.

Long water curtain scene. In this scene the DL version does that awful dancing elephant scene. With its bad music and boring elephant characters. The MGM version shows all of Disney's favorate characters appear in bubbles with there movies theme music playing. Now This is long, so the DL version does a cute little Pinochio dance number that plays well, that tries to save it, but MGM's version is still better.

The Action scene. Now both of these scenes are good but I will give the DL version the slight edge in this one. The Peter Pan Fight is a long uncut action sequence that is thrilling everytime you see it. Pan is flying all over the ship, and its fun to watch. The MGM version is also great fun, with its Phocahantus theme. The Indians come out on their boats, and even the song Its Mine Boys is sung which is good. Also the gun shots and the guys falling off the mountain and the flaming arrows is awsome. The cut water curtain scenes from the movie add somthing to it and make it feel longer than the Peter Pan fight. But the Pan Fight is non stop so I will give them the slight edge, but not by much.

The Bad guys. The bad guy scene edge will have to go to MGM. Even though it gets a little annoying with all of their faces appearing, the Jafar scene beates the Ursala cameo. Ursula just come out and is about to sing one of my favorate songs in Poor and Unfortuate Soul, but stops, and does not realy do much. While Jafar comes out and sends Mickey to the cave of wonders and then turns into a snake and fights Mickey. Mickey rubs the lamp and then defeats jafar. I like that better then the big Ursala float. Then the big Dragon scene is a little diffrent because in the DL version he points the sword at the dragon and defeats him. In the MGM version he rasies a big wall of water and uses it to take out the flame. I thing there both the same so know one gets the edge there.

The Steam Boat. This is the part of the show that gets the most whining from every one. How come the DL version has a real steam boat and the MGM version does not? What are you people idiots who ask that question? The only reason DL has a real steam boat is because it is the Mark Twain that is use every day for more then one purpose. Disney World has a steam boat too, but it is in the Magic Kingdom. I know you people out there think they should transport the Steam Boat from MK to MGM every night for the show, but thats not going to happen. So they built a steam boat that looks more like Steam Boat Willey's Boat then the Mark Twain does. But its not a big and huge boat that is real like the Mark Twain. Oh boo hoo. Get a life people the look of a boat does not make one show better then the other.

The big finish. They are the same firework finish except that the MGM version has Mickey higher up and in better view the the DL version. He is more centered in the MGM version.

All in all both shows are great, but the MGM version is just better. Being able to sit down and watch the show in a theater is so much better then standing up and asking if the guy in front of you can duck down so your kid can see too. Also MGM wins with the bubble scene over the elephant dance, the Jafar Fight over Ursala, and the Lion King Moment over the Jungle book. You just have to give the edge to the MGM version. And please dont give that the boat makes the show because it does not.

What DL should do is build a Fantasmic theater in California Adventure and up date the show with special effects and characters. That will increase CA attendance. And get people to stay late. The Magic Kingdom will still have the Parade and Fantasy in the Sky to keep people in the park. Well thats what I would do.

Why do so many of your posts include the super-angry face in the title? I don't think that it accurately conveys the content all the time, which can make readers (especially me) assume a certain tone when it may not be there at all. If I read correctly, this post was about how much more you like the WDW version of Fantasmic than the DL version... why would you be angry when you tell us this? Just wondering.

I have seen MGM's version and a video version of Disneyland's and I would agree MGM's is better. The Peter Pan segment did look good, but I don't expect them to build a whole new tall ship for MGM (although that might have added to the Pocahontas segment as well). Also, from what I've seen, I think Disneyland's has the better Dragon battle. MGM's seems more boring with the rising water. I can't even imagine having to stand up around the Rivers of America to see the show (good thing MGM had the good sence to add seats).

I'm glad somebody likes WDW's version better. When we moved to Florida we had high hoped for Fantasmic, being such fans of DL's version. DH and I went with friends who were also fans of DL's version. We were so disappointed with the Fantasmic at MGM that we have never been back.

Im SOO glad someone agrees...I like the WDW one better and then main reason is we have to sit on the ground!
but DL show is still very good
but i disappointed b/c I heard soo much about how much better DL is than MGM but then I get there and my 2 favorite scenes from MGM(bubbles and evil transfromation)arent there! I about freaked!
DL dragon is better and Peter Pan is better but I still like the MGM one better

if they just had a theatre I think it woul dbe hard for me to choose one of the other

but dont get me wrong DL is a good show!

I sat over on the New Orleans Square side.

Disneyland is better and its all because of Peter Pan.

This post really belongs on the Disneyland board, or the community board since it doesn't realy contain any rumors or news.

Thanks,

Sarangel

There's really only one to talk about until DL reschedules it....if they ever do.

Seen 'em both, my vote goes to DL. MGM may have seating, but you're still shoulder-to-shoulder with hot smelly people. ;)

I like the DL version better.
Might be cause I had seen it several times before the MGM version was up and am more familiar with it. Or cause its the orginal.

But I do like having seats for the show at MGM.

Having gone to DL a lot of times and then looking forward to it when it was coming new (a few years ago) at MGM I really had high hopes for Fantasmic. I really thought that they could have done a lot more at MGM. DL is a lot more intimate and therefore the dragon, pirate boat, etc. seem bigger. The dragon at MGM is the same size and looks small. Now if they had the dragon coming over the mountain. etc. it would have been great. I think that MGM saved some money and lost some of the magic.

IMHO the only thing better is the seating.

I would tend to agree with JacksBack. First saw Fantasmic at DL (many many times). Then saw the one at MGM, a bit disappointed (no peter pan). But with the last three trips (two in 11/01 and last on New Years Eve) I began to like the MGM version (because I could sit). It is comfortable with its own "arena". I think WDW should do that w/Illuminations (not just for VIPs-reserved section in England/France). Epcot should sell special "illuminations" dinner package (similiar to Candlelight).

I like the drum beats of King Louie.....that's one of ,my favorite parts.... :)

<font color=navy>Well, I've seen both shows, and IMOHO, I'd have to say that I like the DL version more (Jules, you just need to see it a few more times ;) ). I don't mind sitting on the ground to watch it, and think it's more dramatic. The Pocahontas scene @ MGM Studios was anticlimactic to me, compared to the Peter Pan version... but that's just my opinion. :)
