Does anyone think some of the shows at MGM are too violent for preschoolers? With all the explosions, shooting, etc.

What do you think?

My boys loved the shooting...go figure. Of course they were too small for TOT, RRC, and ST. They didn't notice the alien in TGMR until they were 5ish, and started closing their eyes for that. They love Indian Jones, The Muppet Movie and like the Backlot tour, but we kept them on the right hand of the tram.

I think that a LOT of the shows are scary for preschoolers. They are some you would not think about being scary. The Little Mermaid is even scary! Indiana can be scary but sitting up high helps, the Movie ride can be scary but explaining the ride before you get on can help. All the 3-d movies can be intense for little ones. Taking a seat where you can leave easly is a good idea for timid children.

It depends on your child as well as your values. Plenty of preschoolers have been exposed to far more TV and film violence than they will get at MGM and handle it fine. Others have timid children for which the attractions are too intense. Some parents may have kids they choose to shelter for longer than other parents do.

We haven't done most of MGM with our kids yet, mostly for that reason. There has been plenty for them to enjoy that still appeals to childhood innocence - which they are quickly outgrowing. They will be 6 and 7 for the next trip. I'm expecting that the stuff we've been skipping will have more appeal this trip.

Well, the Indiana Jones show scared my 6 1/2 yr old daughter pretty badly! I had to take her out of the arena while they guys finished watching. She was *okay up until the explosion and that was it for her!

My kids (3,5) enjoyed everything at MGM including the Indiana Jones show. DS5 is sensitive to loud noises but with earplugs he did fine. I don't think any of the other shows are very scary just loud.

My two youngest got nervous during Indiana Jones (ages three and four). We did not get to do the new stunt show due to lack of time and number of tired children, but they did fine in everything else.

Thanks for all of your replies. I remember it vaguely from my last visit; I was in college then. The experience totally changes when you've got children! This is really the info I needed. We'll probably pass on Indy. Thanks again!

Alot depends on the age - last visit, my (then) 2y dd was scared in the Little Mermaid show - my 4y dd was okay. This year, my 3y dd did not like Gaston in the Beauty and the Beast show... my 4y dd was okay. Our visit was 4 months ago and just last week my 3y dd was talking about how Gaston was scary and mean and she didn't like him....

bottom line, depends on the kid and exposure.... my kids aren't movie watchers, so aren't really exposed to the 'scary' element in all the Disney stories (Nemo's mom dying, Snow White's mean witch, Cinderella's mean stepmom/sisters, Lion King dad dying...)

The Great Movie Ride is VERY loud - with lots of shoot 'em up bang-bang -and as much as my 6 yr. old granddaughter would LOVE the Wizard of Oz part, I know the rest would scare her to death..:(

Kids are all different. My eldest DS(now 11) used to be scared of Snow White, and even Toy Story (used to ahve to skip the mutant toys under the bed bit!)

Younger DS(5) loved Indiana Jones - usually hates load noises but if they're shooting and explosians then that's OK! GMR - he hated the witch in Wizard of Oz, but luckily had Mummy to cuddle so just looked away :lovestruc - not bothered by the alien, or the shooting. And absolutely adored the Jaws ride :teeth:

The Great Movie Ride definitely is a very intense ride. Two scenes particularly bothered my kids (6 & 4 at the time). Ursula is kind of scary in the Little Mermaid. Indiana Jones was lots of fun - did it for the first time last year. It was very exciting especially for DS4.

Hmmm...I know that you can take a quick exit in the Indy show. But what about rides? Any such thing as a quick exit for a screaming child?
