4 adults and 3 kids (5,2,2) at MGM...Would you recommend the sci-fi? If not, what would you recommend?

I figure the kids would love eating in a car.

Thank You

OK, the food can be pretty bad. So, I'd go for lunch or a treat or something.

But I really get a kick out of that place. It is worth a visit, just for the experience.

If any member of your party is "Pooh-sized" (overweight), they might not fit into the car. Went with a friend who didn't fit, and was glad she laughed it off.

I loved the Sci-Fi when I went about 6 years ago, I'm not sure if they changed their food or I was just oblivious to the food tasting bad. But the atmosphere really is great, thinking about going I have the "Purple People Eater" theme song in my head since that is one of the movies they showed and hopefully still do. I think the kids would probably enjoy the whole car thing, but if I remember you might want to make sure you ask for a car there used to be a few tables in the back, not nearly as much fun as the cars! From what I've heard lately about the food I might stick with a lunch plan, I am hoping to take my boyfriend there when we go in May if nothing else for a snack and milkshakes, heard they are great there!

The car we sat in was had 3 benches.....I guess 7 might fit if one is a child or it's small adults. Won't have a lot of elbow room though. Maybe they have cars that fit 8? :confused3 I thought it was a fun experience and I'm glad we did it. The burgers and onion rings we're great!

We were there two years ago for lunch and I don't remember the food being bad. I don't remember it being great either but the atmosphere was what we went for, and that was fun. I would go back just for the experience of the place.

We ate there last week - there was 11 of us - we got two cars. The food is ok - the apps were good - we got onion rings, BLT soup and the artichoke dip. Those who got the shakes said they were great. The entrees were ok. I had the bbq chicken sandwich and it was terrible (stale bun, dry chicken). DH got the pasta with shrimp and said it was good. Others got the salads and said they were good. Desserts were great. Atmosphere is why you go here. It's just a fun place to go but don't expect great things from the food. All the kids loved eating in the cars and watching the "b" movies.

Um...how overweight or big??

Can 3 people (1 average-sized adult, a tween, and a child) sit side-by-side in the car, or would that be too tight a squeeze?

I'm eating there with my kids, and I didn't think of the seating arrangement details. It would be weird to be sitting alone in the backseat while my kids are sitting in the frontseat. It would be hard to have any sort of conversation, though I imagine my kids will be soaking up the atmosphere too much to talk, anyway.

We were there just a few weeks ago and thought the food was fine. We had the artichoke dip and thought it was very good. DH had the chicken caesar salad and DD and I shared a hamburger. We're a family of 3 and DD sat in the front seat with DH and I behind her. Between eating and watching the movies, we didn't do a lot of visiting. We had a great time!

What??? We think their food is really, really good. Better than most. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but I think their food is fabulous!

My kids love this place. Its actually a quiet setting too. The food is good as well. The only downfall we had with it was it was hard to see your food. I like my burgers well done and i couldnt tell by looking it if it was.. THATS THE ONLY DOWN FALL THOUGH!!! Love this place!!! We are actually deciding between there and 50s prime time cafe...

For our party of 9 they split us up into 2 side-by-side cars.
As for the food, I wouldn't say that it's really bad it's just not as good as you can get at other restaurants. It was definitely my least favourite meal as far as food goes, but it was worth it for the experience. It is a lot darker in there than I thought it would be and it kind of throws you off a bit when you're trying to eat, but my kids loved Sci-Fi.

Are the movies scary or creepy?? I have a 4 and 2 year old. the 2 year old loves spooky, the 4 not so much? I just picture it being dark scary and too loud for little ones

We love the sci-fi dine in restaurant. It is one of the reasons why we go to MGM every trip!!! We usually go for lunch. We think the burgers, onion rings, and chocolate shakes are the best we have ever had!!! That is all we ever order when we go, since we like it so much. My kids usually get the grilled cheese sandwiches with fries, and they like it! The best part my kids like about Sci-Fi is the glow in the dark cups with the flashing ice cubes in the color of their choice. Since it is darker in there the cups look really cool! They then get to take them home. We also got our kids the frisbee glow in the dark plate too that they can take home! The movies they play are not scary at all, they are fun, and some older cartoons too! The atmosphere is totally worth going for. I love to see people's faces when they walk in, if they have never been here before! The waiters on rollerskates are cute too!
Enjoy!!!

I wonder this too. I am bringing my MIL who has a bit of a belly. I'd say maybe 2X size, or a little smaller. I know my kids would really enjoy sitting in the cars. So I don't want to skip this unless I have to.

You dont even have to be THAT "Pooh-Sized" to be un-comfy....

If you have "Pooh-Sized"...ummmm, "girls" you'll feel like the table is smooshed up against them.

I like Sci-Fi...I wish their cars were bigger. My girls need breathing room. :teeth:

But - like others mentioned, fun atmosphere.!!!

they arnt scary at all. You cant really hear it that well either. I went last yr with my 5 and 3 yr old and they were more interested in the fact we were eating in a car then they were in watching the movie.

As a point of reference: I am 5 foot, 5 inches tall, and 185 pounds, and I can still fit into those car seats at the Sci Fi.

This place is still my favorite place to eat in all of WDW. Yes - it is a little too dark to see your food very well. ( The only negative )

I have had chicken caesar salads, burgers, and baked potatoes. Everything was always wonderful ! The atmosphere is totally wonderful!

While the movies are campy and not that scary to DD (11), I will tell you about one of the movies. It was the man who kept growing and the doctors were going to give him a shot. It is an oversized shot and three of them are trying to stick him in the leg. The giant man takes the shot and throws it down, and it lands in one of the doctor's chests. It shows him on the ground with the giant shot stuck through him. Most are harmless, but I could see where that one might scare a little kid if he were watching. Some others also have aliens and might be scary as well.
