MGM: Fire in shows

On our trip in May, I am very interested in seeing the Indiana Jones and Light, Motors, Action! shows. However, we learned on a recent trip to Universal Studios that my seven-year-old son really hates fire effects if he can feel the heat coming off of them.

Can anyone tell me if there is a place to sit at these shows where the view is okay but you can't feel the heat? (I'm assuming that the audience can feel it -- I haven't actually seen these shows before.)

Thanks!

We sat fairly close to the stage (front 1/3 of the stands) for Indiana Jones. I don't recall feeling heat from that.

For Lights, Motors, Action the stands are separated from the stage by 100+ feet - a moat and then a driveway (action occurs on both but I don't remember any fire/explosions on either). I don't recall feeling any heat effects (it's also much more open-to-the-elements than Indy).

The section of the Backstage Tour called Catastrophe Canyon is one you should avoid. Waves of heat from that bad boy...

Excellent -- thanks for the info!

We had already decided to avoid Catastrophe Canyon, but I'd be really bummed if we had to miss the two stunt shows.

You might feel a little heat at Indy if you're sitting close, but I don't think it would be too bad for him. Besides he might surprise you and be fine with it this time. I remember the first time the little ones heard the fireworks they were scared to death. A few months later they were old pros. I hate how fast they grow up.

We didn't feel the heat at Indy & we were about 1/2 way up in the audience. I don't know if you're planning to see Fantasmic! at MGM, but if you are, sit toward the top. We saw it twice our last trip. The first time, we were in the reserved section because we had the dinner package. We were toward the top & in the far right section. We didn't feel the heat from the dragon at all. DS loved the show so much that we went back again, without the package. We got great seats. We were approximately 1/2 way up in one of the center sections. We definitely felt the heat when the water was on fire! Just a warning if that show is in your plans.

I've sat in the front row each time for Indy and I think I felt the heat, but minimally. I would simply suggest sitting more towards the center of the seating area. Not too far down front. I think the stage is also set up well that the view is pretty good no matter where you are.

I can't speak for the stunt show as I've only seen it in Paris, but again, if they set it up the same, I would think sitting several rows back would be just fine.

For the Lights, Motors, Action stunt show, sit towards the top of the stadium. Better view there too
