MGM Character Meal Update Thread

We would love the Pixar meal, but the Playhouse Disney meal would be a big hit for our little ones too.

If they did Power Rangers meal both my DS and DD would have a blast!

I think I may be ready to throw in the towel on this one! :rotfl:

DS9 doesn't really care about the characters all that much. If we see one in the parks that we haven't seen before he will stop for a photo, but that's about it. We are already booked for 12 TS meals (with DDP credits for 9) so it's not like we are short on TS. 4 of those 12 are character meals, so we've got that covered, too!

I personally adore Bear in the Big Blue House, but it's his voice inflection that makes him so funny and I doubt he would speak. The guys in my party (DS, DH, and DS's 2 uncles) won't care about Bear, so I think we are safe with counter service for breakfast on our MGM days!

If they happen to pull together some sort of breakfast and I happen to be able to get an ADR then that's fine, but I am done being on pins & needles about it. :)

This is a quote from Mouse Planet!!!

"The latest information that I've been given about the Breakfast and Beyond meal is that it won't be happening. Word is that the previously reported friction with Pixar may have been much stronger than thought, and that they canned it completely. In its place is now tentatively going to be a Playhouse Disney-themed breakfast. No further details at this time. We'll let you know if we hear more."

I was hoping for July!! Here's hoping someday!!!
Thank you all for your diligence...

Playhouse Disney theme would be great for the very small kids, but there are already great options for the very small kids (Pooh, Mickey, Princesses, etc.). Playhouse Disney will also have a much more limited audience than most of the existing meals. Most adults and children over the age of 5 will still go to the existing character meals, even though the kids are old enough that they aren't excited about meeting, hugging, and believing in the characters. Most adults and children over the age of 5 would NOT choose Playhouse Disney as a character meal over the other existing options. The existing options are child-friendly meals. Playhouse Disney is baby-friendly and most adults and older kids are just annoyed by it unless they have small children of their own.

My vote would be for Disney to bring back the Villians meal and just add a PG6 rating to it so that the parents know before booking it that it might scare todders and very small children.

A villians meal is a LOT more attractive to most the 6+ crowd than any of the options currently offered.

I won't believe it until I see it. With all the "buzz" created about this meal, I can't imagine they would can it altogether. There is more to this story I am sure. I think most of it comes from the fact that Disney sees these messages on a daily basis. They might be just trying to throw everyone off track since we found out about this way earlier than they wanted us too. I don't believe the Pixar thing for a minute. Did you watch Extreme Home Makeover last night? The Army Men were on there tearing down the house. If they can be on the Disney-owned station, they can be at a character meal for goodness sake.

If Disney sees this and other message boards and sees the number of posts and attention these threads were getting, I am sure they are seeing $$ as well. I don't think a Playhouse Disney meal would get the same buzz.

Just my opinion of course! I'll step down off my soapbox now.

I think what gets me most (and probably a good number of us on this thread) is the see-saw decision making here. First we do Heroes, then Pixar, now Playhouse Disney. Then it's end of March, then sometime in June, now who knows.

Hello? Do they really think this is customer service? Do they think we all like to be jerked around, left and right? There's a good number of people who are ready to plunk down the MONEY (which is what Disney wants) for a Toy Story or Heroes meal!

I am sorry...the line will be non-existent if this becomes Playhouse Disney.

I think this can still be worked out...remember...this all started because on the Disney Casting Website, they were looking for a Sarge for a character meal.

So unless that was a fabulous April Fool's joke months early, I can't imagine they would list something and not cast for it.

So Disney, listen up...whatever your problem is, work it out. Fast. We are all ready to pay for a character meal for our boys and older children. Would you rather people take their older kids to Universal? Some people might, but we all would LOVE to take advantage of something AT DISNEY for our boys and older kids.

Off my soapbox now...

Actually my kids love playhouse Disney! DD is 6 and DS will be 2 soon. There are so many good characters, like Jojo, Rolie Polie Olie, Bear. Alot of kids today know the Playhouse characters better than Mickey mouse himself. My DD is a very mature 6 yr. old but she would not want to dine with villains. I would like the villains because I like collecting the rare characters. I would still like to have Toy Story character. That stinks that they can't do it now. I guess I will be booking Crystal Palace for DS and CRT for DD.

I really would like to see a different character meal but I hardly think Disney is going to be hurting if they choose not to offer it.

My DH and I have really been looking forward to a Toy Story Breakfast but I gotta say my two DS's would love a Playhouse Disney meal as well. They are almost 4 & 2 and they love Bear, JoJo, Little Einsteins, Stanley and Rolie Polie Olie. I am just hoping that at least one new meal for MGM appears sometime soon! :goodvibes

I still think a hero themed meal would be a great addition to the line up at MGM. They could have anyone from Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones, to Aladdin and Hercules. My kids are too old for a Playhouse Disney themed meal. I'll still hoping for something new for my trip in June. Thanks to all who keep checking daily.

I agree. We would not pay over $100 for another character meal geared towards young children. My DH wouldn't know any of the Playhouse Disney characters. :lmao: He can barely figure out the Princess population.

Disney hasn't jerked anyone around as they haven't made any of this information PUBLIC. Posting applications on their casting website is different than a public announcement. It's not Disney's fault that every decision they are trying to make becomes a rumor on the internet. If it weren't for the internet, noone would know anything about this and noone would be worrying about it.

Unfortunately the Playhouse Disney meal would not work for us. My twin boys who will be 6 on our June trip would have absolutely NO interest in it. My other boy is only 1 1/2 and he is too young to be interested either. I already have ADR for Chef Mickey's and I was hoping to add a Toy Story one but I guess we will only be going to one character meal.

I agree with the PP; they haven't jerked anyone around b/c they never made any official announcements and denied the rumors when asked.

The problem I have with Disney is that I think that they really should offer something more geared towards boys/older children. My boys would have loved Toy Story,Incredibles or Power Rangers!! Come on Disney...you need more character meals that aren't Princess themed.

That's so funny that there's talk of a Playhouse Disney character meal now. I had just suggested that like 2 weeks(and got a long letter back from a Disney paralegal about how they can't take suggestions from "outsiders" because "insiders" may have thought of the same thing. I wasn't looking for some sort of credit for it, I just wanted to go to it), I hope it happens before our October vacation my kids (even the 9 y/o) would love it.

It does kind of stink.

With the Princesses they are targeting girls of all ages.

With the other characters it is unisex in that both boys and girls love it.

But with playhouse Disney, yes both boys and girls will love it but only until about the age of 6.

There are so many more options for girls and not boys. Makes me wonder why the big push for everything girls but not so much boys. Must be they don't think the $$ is there for anything for boys. :confused3

Nothing today.
How long do you think I sould keep calling. I do not mind doing it but if now it is going to be a playhouse disney meal (something I have no interest in, having DS's 8 & 13) I am not sure it is worth it for me. What do the rest of you think?

I want to thank you for your diligence over the last couple of months. Many of us checked this thread first thing every morning to see if you were able to glean any new information. You have done us all a tremendous favor.

If the possible new Playhouse Disney meal holds no interest for you (or for my family either!) then I don't think you need to keep calling at all. From the sounds of it, any new character meal is a long way off and we don't need daily calls to Disney Dining to check on the ADR status at this point--maybe a few months more down the road someone will feel the necessity to start checking daily again. Let someone who desperately wants the Playhouse Disney meal bear the torch at that point.

Your work is done, Cruz family. [Insert appropriate movie quote here.] Thanks again!

With this new turn I wouldn't need the new character meal either. We were so gung ho for the pixar but this would be another one for younger ones. Thanks to everyone that has called in!!!!!!!

My guess is that Disney is reluctant to do a boys theme (Peter Pan, Hook, Tarzan, ect.). The Disney line of Adventurers clothing and toys didn't do well at all sales-wise for Disney. On ebay I can't give away the Adventurers clothes that I bought on clearance. It sounds risky.

At the same time, a Playhouse Disney meal would also have a limited audience due to the age of the programming. I wish there was something for older kids. Ours are 6 & 9. I asked them and they both said a Narnia-themed meal would be very cool (probably because they have the DVD on their minds since it's being released tomorrow).

Hi everyone! I can't believe all of the changes this supposed meal has gone through since we started this thread 2 months ago! Anyway, whatever they decide to do, it won't be in time for our trip (just to add my 2 cents: a Playhouse Disney meal would do nothing for us!). DH was just diagnosed with a degenerative back condition so I will probably not be able to update the title daily for a while with all of the dr. appointments we will be going to. I will just remove the date - keep checking in the thread for updates. You guys are doing a great job calling each day (special thank you to Cruz Family for all of the calls you have made! :flower3: ). I hope this works out for everyone who wants it!!! Keep wishing! pixiedust:
