MGM Character Meal Update Thread

My child is older but, we (including DH & I) were most anticipating the Army Men (hut, hut, hut)...they crack us up.

Do the army men talk??? I have been wondering how Sarge was going to be doing a "show" because every time I have seen and interacted with the army men, they have never talked.

Good question, we've only seen them in the parades. Trying to remember, think they have a green stocking-like head piece. Wonder if they'd be "face charactars" or just do that funny grunting?

They also have those funny things on their feet (like flat piece of plastic that their shoes fit on). I wonder if that would be a safety hazard walking around the restaurant. I can imagine a kid standing up to get their picture taken with Sarge and stepping on that plastic thing. Then Sarge moves on to the next table and falls on his face because the little boy is standing on the plastic thing.

Here is how big Woody is. (Admittedly, I am rather short about 5 ft.)

From what I am reading it seems like there may be a problem :confused3 with the Toy Story theme. What about then having Hercules, Peter Pan, Quisimodo etc,or better still, the characters from Chicken Little (I love Chicken Little).

I'll keep waiting to see like everyone else. :)

Did I dream this or wasn't there a rumor about a pirate themed character meal at the Mexican restaurant near POTC awhile back? Why couldn't they open this up when the POTC rehab is done? I would think it would be simple enough - Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Mr, Smee...

Well I am just not understanding the issue about costumes,if that is really the issue. This is a company that builds rides like The Tower of Terror. That must have been a little more complicated than finding a way for Woody to attend a character buffet. Seems to me if a couple of them put their heads together they could come up with something. :lmao:

Oh JMO. I think there is a bigger issue that we are not hearing about. The ability to make it happen is there and the consumer interest is there. Maybe these new rumors of it NOT happening are a way to keep us out of the loop and make up stop calling. ;)

Hi everyone - sorry I didn't update the title earlier - my cable was out! :badpc:

When we saw Sarge at MGM 2 years ago he indeed did talk....quite loudly (like an army sargeant giving orders would).

I could see a problem with Buzz getting around H&V and then with the dessert island in the middle. I can't see them getting rid of it either for the dinner there. I've been there a few times and for the life of me I cannot remember the layout of the place. I thought there was an open area when you first walked in. And, I don't know if the layout is different now from when they had the character meals there before.

I'm not sure what to think of all of this now :confused3

I had an interesting conversation with a dinning CM today.

I asked if there was any truth to the character meal at MGM. She said it's planned for later in the year, like December. She said that the June date being passed around would be for taking ADRs, not for the meal to start. Said it would be unfair to guests visiting this summer, who made their ADRs 6 months ago. She compared it to the new Bippity Botique thing (where the girls get made up like princesses). They began telling people about it and letting them make reservations late last year, but it doesn't start until April.

It all made sense what she was saying, but then she lost me when she said there was some internet site that just keeps spreading rumors like this. And those people always think they know more than the cast members. :rolleyes2 .... Well we all know that many times us Dis'rs do know more than the CMs.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass on what I heard.

hmm...
I'd say that they didn't do that when they changed over CRT this Feb or when they first started Norway or when they changed over to lunch and dinner to be character dining either. Anyone remember for sure about Norway?

They tested a buffet @ the el piratea rest. in adventureland the end of sept/early Oct.; don't think it was a charactar meal though. Talk about a :cool1: great idea!

Don't get me wrong, I luv Chef Mickey's & Pooh/friends are great...but, MGM is the only park w/o a Charactar meal. Not sure why they dropped the original one they had for breakfast @ MGM but, think it is again viable. Lots of folks on dining plan = need for more offerings.:wizard:

I remember quite a few years ago, there was a character meal in the old soundstage, where Playhouse Disney is now. They had Jasmine, Aladdin, Genie and Jafar. This is during the time when they also had the Aladdin parade. What about characters that are in the current Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade? Luke Skywalker, Aladdin, Peter Pan, Prince Eric, Mike and Sulley just to name a few, or Indiana Jones. Just an idea. It's not looking promising for my upcoming June trip though, guess I'll just have to plan another trip!
