MGM Character Meal Update Thread

H&V did have a character breakfast AND lunch several years ago. The characters were Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale. I want to say that they were there as late as 2002 or 2003, but then they stopped breakfast and lunch altogether at H&V.

I wonder what the hang up is? Is it just getting enough servers hired and trained? Or are they training those who would be "in character"?

That just doesn't make sense to me that it would take this long to get people trained and ready to go to push it back from an April start to a June start. 2 extra months is a VERY long time...a time during which they would be making A LOT of money off of those of us wanting this meal.

I am so upset We are going in May and this is our 1st trip, and probably the only one for many years to come. This would have made my 3 year old's entire trip.

Us too!!! were in the same boat this is our first trip, except DS is 2 and 1/2. I wish they`d open it for may.

I am bummed too. We will be there end of April and both my kids (DS - 5 and DD 3 1/2) would have LOVED this. Thankfully I know they will both enjoy the Princess breakfast too that we have scheduled. This is our first trip to The World and who knows when we will get back. I am there crying and pouting with the rest of you.

I have seen the term "soft opening" used a few times. I am curious...what exactly does it mean?

I wonder if the start date will keep getting pushed back. Our first day at the parks will be on June 3rd and we are leaving on the 7th so if it gets pushed back ANY further than the June 2nd or 4th dates I have seen, we will not be able to go either.

In Disney-speak, it's when they open a new ride/restaurant w/o announcing the fact to the public.

Sporadically, they open it before the "official" date to work the kinks out.

Restaurants, especially chains, do the same thing.
Hope your dates work out, about time the boys get some attention.

We are going May 22- 27, so I have been checking this thread everyday since it started. SOOOOOO disappointed to see the date pushed back. Many thanks to DisneyFanatik for the daily calls! Hopefully a little will come our way!

I don't recall any recent table service meal openings so I'm not sure how they would do a soft opening. Basically, if nothing comes up before you leave, I think that I would suggest asking the concierge desk at the hotel or guest services at the park to see if they know anything. If they do a soft opening, I would guess that it would be on a walk in and/or same day ADR only. Good luck! Luckily, we aren't going until Oct so we should be good for the meal.

The whole group is there for you. We have our fingers crossed!! BTW we have also ordered some special pixie dust for you for all of your hard work. Let us know if you are able to get the soft opening if it's not open for ADR's when you leave.

I think Garden Grill did soft openings when they reopened after The Land was refurbished last year,

After reading this, it looks like we will be out of luck too! We are going the first week of June, so mid to late June won't work for us.

Nothing today for ADRs.
She did mention that there probably would be a soft opening so those going earlier than June I would check it out at H&V. However, she didn't confirm this was going to happen. She was talking about when and if it does that's what they have done before with new places or remodels.
